To the back surface of the intermediate plate, a direct current linear motor for injection is connected via a load cell. The load cell detects the axial direction load applied to the rear end of the screw by the pressure of the molten resin in the heating barrel during charging, and also detects the axial direction load applied to the rear end of the screw for moving the screw forward during injection. The current to be supplied to the DC linear motor is controlled in a feedback manner based on the detected axial direction load, thereby bringing the pressure of the molten resin in the heating barrel closer to a predetermined pattern.

The invention is based on an injection unit for a plastic injection molding machine having a screw, having a motion spindle as first drive element, via which the screw can be rotationally driven for the plasticization and is movable in the axial direction for the injection, having a spindle nut as second drive element, which is coupled to the motion spindle via a motion screw thread, having a large electric motor which is arranged so as to be fixed to the frame and by which, while one drive element is held against rotation, the other drive element can be rotationally driven for moving the screw during the injection, and having a device which is arranged so as to be fixed to the frame and by which a rotational speed of the one drive element can be preset during the plasticization, this rotational speed being different from the rotational speed at which the large electric motor simultaneously drives the other drive element. In a known injection unit of this type, two equally large electric motors, which can both apply a large torque, are used, by which such a counter-torque is exerted on the motion spindle during the injection operation that the motion spindle does not rotate. On the whole, the known injection unit is quite expensive on account of the two electric motors designed for a high torque. According to the invention, in order to provide a more cost-effective injection unit, the drive element held against rotation during the moving of the screw for the injection can be locked by a releasable mechanical brake.

The invention is based on a drive device for a movable part, especially a mold closure device for an injection molding machine. A conventional mold closure device possesses a hydraulic cylinder-and-piston unit having a first hydraulic piston, which borders with a first active surface on a first pressure chamber and with a second active surface, which is smaller than the first active surface and faces in the opposite direction thereto, on a second pressure chamber, and comprises a further hydraulic piston, which is fixedly connected to the first hydraulic piston, and possesses a third active surface, which borders on a third pressure chamber and is active in the same direction as the second active surface. Via a valve arrangement, the second pressure chamber can be connected to the first pressure chamber and can be relieved of pressure separately from the first pressure chamber. In the conventional mold closure device, the cylinder-and-piston unit for closing and opening the mold is operated in open hydraulic circuits, the pressure chambers being connected to a tank at the end of the closure operation and at the end of the opening operation and the movable part evidently being braked only by friction. It is an object of the invention further to develop a drive device of the conventional type so that it can be operated at higher dynamics. This is achieved in that a second hydraulic cylinder-and-piston unit is present, having a second hydraulic piston which is movable relative to the cylinder by a drive motor, especially an electric drive motor, and borders with a fourth active surface on a fourth pressure chamber, which is permanently connected to the third pressure chamber, and with a fifth active surface, which faces in the opposite direction to the fourth active surface, borders on a fifth pressure chamber, which can be connected to the first pressure chamber, and wherein the dimensional relationship between the fifth active surface and the difference between the first active surface and the second active surface is equal to the dimensional relationship between the fourth active surface and the third active surface. In a drive device according to the invention, a pressure which brakes the movable part builds up in the first pressure chamber and in the second pressure chamber or third pressure chamber when the second hydraulic piston is no longer moving, without a valve having to be actuated for that purpose.

An energy efficient drive system is provided for use on typical injection molding machines whereby a single electric motor drives both the extruder screw and a hydraulic motor that continuously charges a hydraulic accumulator during the extrusion process. During the injection cycle, the charge in the accumulator is directed to stroke the extruder screw and inject melt into the mold cavities. Another embodiment utilizes a similar arrangement on the clamp mechanism of the injection molding machine whereby the charge in the accumulator is directed to hold the mold closed during the injection cycle.

The present invention provides a ball screw device for linear movement, which moves a working body by using a single of a plurality of ball screw shafts and ball screw nuts. In the ball screw device, a plurality of ball screw nuts are engaged threadedly with the same ball screw shaft. Also, one of the ball screw nuts on each ball screw shaft is attached to the working body via a fixed flange, the single fixed flange or one of the fixed flanges is provided with a load sensor, and other ball screw nuts serve as a fluid pressure supporting mechanism using a cylinder and a piston. A fluid pressure is controlled so that the support force of the fluid pressure supporting mechanism is equal to the pushing force detected by the load sensor. By this configuration, a large load can be distributed evenly to the ball screw nuts.

An electric actuator that is structured simply, low in costs and high in both energy efficiency and operation accuracy and is capable of realizing frequent activation and stop is provided. In a return stroke in which a linear actuator is in low load operation state, an energy generated by an electric motor and a kinetic energy generated by movable portions when they stop are absorbed and accumulated by a coil spring. By this constitution, it becomes possible to cause the movable portions of the linear actuator to quickly stop while eliminating the necessity of giving a braking force by an electric or mechanical brake or the like and of providing a configuration designed for giving a braking force in a reliable manner such as one provided as a measure against heat generation. On the other hand, in an actuation stroke, the energy accumulated in the spring is released as operation energy of the movable portions when the spring extends and a driving force required of the electric motor is reduced.
