    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a container having a tear-away top. In general, the container comprises an outer substrate layer, an inner aseptic layer secured to the outer substrate layer, and a cut in the outer substrate layer. In order to preserve the product in the container, the cut is of a predetermined depth such that the cut does not puncture the inner aseptic layer. The cut, however, is sufficiently deep so that a predetermined portion of the top may be torn away from the container at the cut. The present invention also includes a method for manufacturing a container that has a tear-away top. The method generally includes the steps of providing an outer substrate layer, securing an inner aseptic layer to the outer substrate layer, making a cut of predetermined depth in the outer substrate layer such that the cut does not puncture the inner aseptic layer, and then forming a container. After the container has been formed, a predetermined portion of the top may be torn away from the container at the cut.

    Abstract: A food container and its method of use are disclosed. The food container includes a top panel, bottom panel and plurality of sidewalls. A movable panel is hingedly connected to one of the sidewalls, allowing a consumer to open the container. Attached to the lower edge of the movable panel is a shelf supporting a food item. A consumer can access the food item by opening the movable panel, which causes the shelf to carry the food item outside the container into a position that permits the consumer to easily manipulate it. The food item or a portion thereof can then be replaced in the container by simply closing the movable panel. The shelf may engage one or more sidewalls of the bottom panel to assist in maintaining the container in a closed position after initial opening and reclosing. The container is suitable for packaging food items that include both microwaveable and non-microwaveable ingredients. A foldable blank for manufacturing the container is also disclosed.

    Abstract: The present invention pertains to a carton and a blank and a method for forming the carton for packaging ice cream or the like. The carton blank comprises front, bottom, rear and cover panels. A closure flap is hingedly connected to a top edge of the cover panel that opposes the rear panel. An end flap extends from each end edge of the cover panel, rear panel, bottom panel and front panel. A single tear strip is formed in the closure flap. Also, a single tear strip is formed in the end flap extending from the front panel. Upon removal of the tear strips, the carton can completely unfold and the contents therein can be readily accessed in brick form from all sides.
