    Abstract: An apparatus (10) for the location and removal of foreign objects from a difficult to access geometry utilizes a flexible lance (12) formed of individual hose bar segments (14) strung on cables (16) to give a structure that is flexible along its length and fairly rigid in a direction transverse to its length. Extending from working channels (18) of nozzle block (20) of the lance (12) are a pair of multi-prong retrievers (22). A miniaturized Videoprobe camera (24) is provided in the nozzle block (20) between the two retrievers (22). The retrievers are each connected to an actuating cable (26), which extends through the flexible lance (12) to a manual control (28). The camera (24) is connected by a cable (30) to suitable video processing circuits for generation of images on a video display (32). The cable (30) also houses a fiber optic bundle which conveys light to the area being serviced by the lance (12). The flexible lance (12 ) extends through a transporter (34), which positions the nozzle block end of the lance (12) opposite a portion of a steam generator or other difficult to access geometry. The transporter (34) moves along a transport rail (36) to move the nozzle block end of the lance (12) into position. The lance (12) is then advanced through the transporter (34) to move the nozzle block end into the difficult to access geometry and retracted to withdraw the nozzle block end from the difficult to access geometry.

    Abstract: A cellulosic fibrous structure, such as paper. The fibrous structure has at least three intensively distinct regions. The regions are distinguished from one another by intensive properties such is basis weight, density and projected average pore size, or thickness. In one embodiment, the fibrous structure has regions of two basis weights, a high basis weight region and a low basis weight region. The high basis weight region is further subdivided into low and high density regions so that a fibrous structure having three regions is produced.A second embodiment is a four region fibrous structure. Two of the regions have generally equivalent relatively high basis weights and two of the regions having generally equivalent relatively low basis weights. The high basis weight regions and low basis weight regions are further subdivided according to relatively high and relatively low densities, so that when the high and low basis weight regions are permuted with the high and low density regions, four different regions result. The regions distinguished by density will have inversely proportionate projected average pore sizes.

    Abstract: An articulated lance for cleaning sludge located between steam generator tubes is disclosed. A plurality of radius blocks are attached to the end of manipulator member and are actuatable by a cam assembly to form an arc permitting the lance to be received between adjacent tubes within a tube bundle. A plurality of fluid passageways interconnect a fluid inlet on the manipulator member with one or more outlet orifices adjacent the end of the lance. The outlet orifices are positioned outwardly with respect to the end of the manipulator member so that fluid passing therethrough can be directed to impinge upon sludge surrounding the tubes. A spring backing place biases the radius blocks and the manipulator member back into the same plane upon deactuation of the cam assembly.

    Abstract: For removal of the sludge deposits on the tube sheet of a steam generator which comprises, in a vertical cylindrical enclosure closed by said sheet, a bundle of parallel heat exchange U-shaped tubes sealingly connected to said sheet at both ends and distributed to form parallel sheets of tubes, a lance is radially moved from the center of the tubular plate between two parallel sheets of tubes rather than in the tube lane. Movement occurs in a direction parallel to the tube sheet and in close proximity to the latter. Two streams at least of cleaning fluid under a high pressure are directed toward the plate from the end portion of the lance and in directions which are fixed and symmetrical with respect to the direction of the two sheets of tubes. The streams are cut off as they confront the tubes during radial movement of the lance. And the cleaning fluid is flown out of the enclosure of the steam generator from the periphery of the bundle of tubes.
