    摘要: A wide operating frequency range transmission line discriminator uses an imum length transmission line which permits near carrier frequency modulation to be measured on a carrier frequency in a broad range from approximately two megahertz to one gigahertz. A hybrid junction, balanced phase detector, power dividers, attenuators and a variable transmission line coupled with the optimum length transmission line provide a wide frequency range discriminator with only a minimum exchange in selected components being necessary for changes in carrier frequency. This near carrier analyzer operates over the wide frequency range with the only component changes being an input bandpass filter, the optimum length transmission line, and the variable length transmission line used as a variable or adjustable phase shift device. The transmission line sections are easily changed by simply selecting proper line lengths which may be previously established. When optimum detection is not essential in a particular measurement, the optimum length transmission line can effectively operate and accomplish its function over several octaves of frequency range with minimal analyzer degradation, on the order of three decibels. In measuring frequency modulation noise, carrier nulling in excess of 60 decibels is accomplished. After this carrier null has been accomplished, the discriminator circuit rejects incidental amplitude modulation on the test signal, and is not restricted by burnout power ratings of crystals within the phase detector.

    摘要: A Doppler type radio navigation system in which each element of a linear array is energized discretely and sequentially to produce a simulated Doppler effect at a remote location such as an aircraft on landing approach. A reference signal is also transmitted, and a receiver at the remote location "sees" a Doppler frequency shift proportional to the sine of the angle subtended by the receiver normal to the axis of the array by processing of the commutated data against the received reference signal to obtain a beat. A sum and difference transversal tracking filter arrangement is included for tracking the desired beat signal to exclude multi-path spurious beat signals. The tracking arrangement includes a voltage controlled oscillator, the detected beat signal being taken therefrom. Low noise bandwidth is obtained and performance under severe multipath conditions is improved.

    摘要: Precalculated samples of a power-density spectrum, taken at equispaced frequencies, are converted into modified samples with a nonlinear (e.g. logarithmic) distribution by being selectively weighted with the aid of several groups of coefficients defining a series of overlapping windows of mutually different widths. The system determines the weighting coefficient whose position in the frequency band of any window is closest to that of a precalculated sample appearing within that window; for each window, any sample appearing therein is multiplied by its closest coefficient and the sum of the resulting products is then divided by a factor proportional to the width of the window.

    摘要: A fully digital spectrum analyzer accepting as an input either an analog signal or a series of digital numbers and using time compression and DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform) techniques to provide the spectral component values of the input signal. Novel techniques and means are used in obtaining the power values for selected spectral lines and in averaging these power values. Statistically controlled noise is added to the input of the spectrum analyzer to enhance its resolutin beyond the resolution which would be otherwise available. Advanced and efficient techniques are used for generating and applying trigonometric functions in the course of finding the real and imaginary part of Fourier transforms, and for providing running averages of the power spectra.

    摘要: Apparatus for measuring the spectral purity of a low duty cycle pulsed signal. A continuous wave (CW) reference signal is mixed with the pulsed signal forming an IF signal that is applied to one input of a phase detector. The output of the phase detector is amplified and applied to a sample and hold circuit which compresses the pulse spectrum of the pulse signal under test. After a time delay the sample and hold circuit provides an output to a voltage controlled oscillator which supplies a variable frequency CW signal to a second input of the phase detector to complete a phase locked loop allowing FM sideband detection. The sample and hold circuit output is passed, for example, to wave analyzers or through a threshold detector arranged to drive an indicator.
