    摘要: A pump intake apparatus for directing fluid flow to a pump. The pump intake assembly includes a pump intake column having a pump bell and a pump intake pit. The intake pit includes an upper intake pit encircling the pump intake column and has a tapered inner surface providing the upper intake pit with a decreasing cross-sectional area to accelerate the fluid flow toward the pump bell. The upper intake pit may include at least one vane extending inwardly from the inner surface of the upper intake pit to suppress rotation of a fluid flowing through the upper intake pit. The intake pit further includes a lower intake pit floor positioned substantially below the pump bell and including a projection member upwardly extending from a central region of the lower intake pit floor toward the pump bell. The lower intake pit floor has a substantially curvilinear surface interconnecting the upper intake pit to the projection member to redirect and accelerate fluid flow toward the pump bell. The intake assembly may include a shroud extending from the lower end of the pump intake column to also facilitate acceleration of fluid flow toward the bell portion of the pump. A method of using the pump intake is also disclosed.

    摘要: The invention provides a system and method for filling a reservoir through one or a plurality of inlet nozzles to encourage mixing. The inlet nozzles include a specifically designed size reduction between the main line or branch to which the inlet nozzle is attached and the nozzle pipe itself; a specifically designed nozzle pipe length which, combined with the pressure increase provided by the size reduction, will produce the most appropriate jet flow; and a specifically designed location and orientation of the inlet nozzle within the reservoir. These parameters produce a developed turbulent jet flow which, when the inlet nozzle is positioned at the appropriate elevation and oriented in the appropriate direction(s), will direct the developed turbulent jet flow with the appropriate momentum to reach the surface of the water with initial major mixing taking place in this area. A corresponding draining system and method is also disclosed.

    摘要: A planar extensible structure in a flat planar flex circuit can be extended out of the plane of the circuit by a distance of more than the width of the structure to carry fluids, electrical signals or optical signals into and out of the circuit. The planar extensible structure may be an Archimedes spiral, a parabolic spiral, a polygonal spiral, a non-spiral extensible shape, or other extensible shape. The invention can be used to siphon fluid samples from each well in a multiple-well microtiter plate into a microfluidic manifold for utility in chemical and biochemical analysis. The invention can also be used to allow electrical interconnect between adjacent circuits or circuit boards, and can allow signals carried in optical fibers to be transferred between optical circuits in different planes.

A flange may extend around the valve seat to retain the valve in the wall of the liner bag. This arrangement prevents the liner bag wall from clogging the valve during discharge of the bag's contents.
