摘要： A timepiece comprises a display including a light emitting element. A detector detects ambient light around the timepiece and a switch is switchable into first and second operating modes. When the switch is in the first mode the light emitting element is illuminated at a first brightness level when the detected ambient light is below a predetermined level and the light emitting element is not illuminated when the detected ambient light is above the predetermined level. When the switch is in the second mode, the light emitting element is illuminated at a second brightness level which is greater than the first brightness level.

摘要： A wafer battery has a light-emitting diode attached to its jacket, with oneead of the diode soldered to the battery jacket, and the other lead extending around the battery and overhanging its anode. The combination of diode and battery is encapsulated in a cover of elastomeric material, with a pressure-sensitive adhesive on one side. The bezel is applied to crystal of an instrument such as a meter, gauge, or the like and illuminates the gauge when a series connection is completed between the battery and light-emitting diode by pressing the cover over the battery anode to make the light-emitting diode lead contact the anode. The bezel is small with respect to the surface area of the crystal to which it is applied, in order that is not obscure the scale, dial, or face of the instrument. An alternate embodiment has one lead of the light-emitting diode soldered to the battery anode and the other lead extending over the side of the battery jacket. A push rod through the cover is used to push the other lead into contact with the battery jacket to complete the circuit.

摘要： An electronic watch having a multiple of modes includes mode selection means operable from the outside and a plurality of external operating buttons for modifying the contents of indication of the watch or for issuing an operational command in each mode. Auxiliary indication means is provided directly with the mode selection means. Alternatively, the auxiliary indication means may be provided separately from the mode selection means but in an interlocked fashion with it. The indication surface of the auxiliary indication means carries at a position corresponding to each of the external operating buttons a symbol or characters which represent the function of said each of the external operating buttons in each selected mode.

摘要： An electronic watch having a liquid crystal display which presents time information in a substantially conventional presentation of hour, minute and second hands which appear to circulate around the watch face. The display contains sixty equidistant radial hands on an outer circle for the display of both minutes and seconds, and twenty-four equidistant radial hands on an inner circle for the display of hours and half hours. The hands are divided into sets, and each hand in each set is interconnected to form strings of hands with each string having no more than one hand in a set. The circuit interconnections of the hands are provided on a surface of a substrate of the display without crossover of the connecting leads. A parallel substrate has formed thereon transparent electrodes each associated with and overshadowing a set of hands. Thus, in accordance with the invention a matrix arrangement and electronic circuitry are provided for actuating the hands to display time information to the nearest hour, minute and second.

摘要： In an electronic watch the indication of the time (hours, minutes and possibly seconds) is given in analog form by means of a first passive electro-optic display cell. The display segments of this first display cell are arranged radially with respect to a central point, and the activated segments thereof have the appearance of the conventional hands of an analog watch. The watch comprises a second passive electro-optic display cell furnishing information in digital form, for example indicating the day of the week and the date. So that only the second cell need be provided with an illuminating device, the watch comprises a selector which is manually operable by means of a push-button which, when it is operated, causes the time to be displayed by the second cell at the same time as the illuminating device thereof is operated. This arrangement enables the user to know the time in the dark without it being necessary to provide the first cell with an illuminating device.
