    摘要: A system and method to sense the application of transverse stress to an optical fiber which includes a light source that producing a relatively wide spectrum light beam. The light beam is reflected or transmitted off of an optical grating in the core of an optical fiber that is transversely stressed either directly or by the exposure to pressure when the fiber is bifringent so that the optical fiber responds to the pressure to transversely stress its core. When transversely stressed, the optical grating produces a reflection or transmission from the light beam that has two peaks or minimums in its frequency spectrum whose spacing and/or spread are indicative of the forces applied to the fiber. One or more detectors sense the reflection or transmissions from the optical grating to produce an output representative of the applied force. Multiple optical gratings and detectors may be employed to simultaneously measure temperature or the forces at different locations along the fiber.

    摘要: A rotating surface optical sensing system having a radiation source controlled by a controlled current generator to emit electromagnetic radiation toward the rotating surface from which it can be directed to a radiation detector to provide corresponding signals to a threshold detector. The controlled current generator uses the threshold detector indications as to whether these signals are beyond a threshold value if validated by a rotation determiner noting rotations of the rotating surface to set the current for the radiation source. An amplifying filter is provided to amplify selected frequency components of the radiation detector output signals as a bandpass filter having a lower cutoff frequency such that relatively slowly varying optical ambient based signals are not amplified but signals from the radiation source directed from the surface to the detector are amplified. This is accomplished by repeatedly sampling the radiation detector output signals when the radiation source is not emitting, and again when it is emitting, and subtracting corresponding ones of such samples followed by integrating the differences so determined. Power supply noise occurring during emissions by the radiation source can be decoupled from the filter.

    摘要: A camera shutter and focus encoder assembly comprises an encoder mask fixed in a camera housing and having an arcuate window having alternating opaque and transmissive portions, and an encoder sheet mounted in the housing in abutting relationship with the encoder mask, the encoder sheet being movable with exposure blades and the focus lens of the camera and having an arcuate window having alternating opaque and transmissive portions therein. Means are provided for pressing the encoder mask and the encoder sheet together with the mask and sheet windows in registration with each other. A sensor passes pulses of light through the mask and sheet windows when the transmissive portions thereof are in registration and detects the pulses of light, converts the light pulses to electrical signals, and transmits the electrical signals. A controller receives the electrical signals and determines therefrom the position and direction of movement of the shutter blades, compares the blade position and movement direction with a preselected program and sends to a motor a signal instructing any required compensating shutter blade movement change, and in like manner monitors the focus assembly and sends to the motor a signal instructing any required compensating lens movement change.
