Abstract: Devices, systems and methods for digital video coding, which includes matrix-based intra prediction methods for video coding, are described. In a representative aspect, a method for video processing includes performing a first determination whether a luma video block of a video is coded using a matrix based intra prediction (MIP) mode; performing a second determination that the luma video block is applicable for determining a chroma intra mode for a current chroma video block of the video; performing, based on the first determination and the second determination, a third determination about the chroma intra mode to be used for the current chroma video block; and performing, based on the third determination, a conversion between the current chroma video block and a bitstream representation of the current chroma video block.

Abstract: A method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video unit of a video and a coded representation of the video using at least a video picture. Only one of a sub-picture coding mode or a resolution-changing coding mode is enabled for the video unit. The sub-picture coding mode is a mode in which the video picture is divided into multiple sub-pictures, and the resolution-changing coding mode is a mode in which a resolution of the video picture is adjusted during the conversion.

One example method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video including one or more video regions and a bitstream of the video according to a format rule. The format rule specifies that a variable X indicates whether B slice is allowed or used in a video region. The format rule further specifies that the variable X is based on values of a reference picture list information present flag and/or a field indicating a number of entries in a reference picture list syntax structure.

During the conversion, a predictor palette is used for predicting the palette of representative sample values, and wherein a size of the predictor palette is adaptively adjusted according to a rule.

Abstract: A video processing method includes determining, for a conversion between a block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video, that a secondary transform with a reduced dimension dimension (e.g., an inverse low frequency non-separable transform) is applicable to a single sub-block of the block in case a dimension of the block satisfies a condition. The secondary transform is performed between a forward primary transform and a quantization step or between a de-quantization step and an inverse primary transform. The reduced dimension is reduced from a dimension of the block. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the determining.
