    摘要: An aperture stop focuses light from indicia onto a solid-state imager of an imaging reader. The aperture stop has an open aperture with a scan dimension sized to resolve symbol elements, and with a height dimension to allow sufficient light to be captured. A cylindrical lens can be used to collect additional light. The aperture stop provides a large depth of focus and enables symbols to be read over a wide field of view. The need to use an expensive multiple lens assembly with the imager is eliminated.

    摘要: An imaging module for imaging, and a reader for and a method of electro-optically reading, a target, include a support, an imaging assembly including a solid-state imager having an array of image sensors on the support for capturing return light over a field of view at a range of working distances from the target along a folded imaging path, and an illuminating assembly on the support for directing illumination light along a folded illuminating path having a length longer than the folded imaging path to uniformly illuminate the target with the illumination light. The longer length of the folded illuminating path enables the illuminating assembly to illuminate the target with more of the illumination light, and also enables the imaging assembly to capture more of the return light for increased imaging/reading performance.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for expediting self-checkout at a point-of-sale station, employ a mobile electronic device, e.g., a cellular phone, held and operated by each customer. The device images one-dimensional symbols identifying items to be purchased, decodes the one-dimensional symbols to form decoded data, combines the decoded data to form one or more two-dimensional symbols, and displays each two-dimensional symbol on a display screen. Each displayed two-dimensional symbol is presented to a window of an electro-optical scanner at the point-of-sale station. The scanner images and decodes each displayed two-dimensional symbol to form a series of decoded data indicative of all the one-dimensional symbols, and sends the series of decoded data to a host network.
