A method for measuring thickness of a transparent layer and a measuring device using the same are provided. The transparent layer has a first face, a second face and a normal direction. The method includes the following steps. First, a light beam with a focal point is emitted to the transparent layer. Next, a focus error signal (FES) is generated according to a refracted beam of the light beam. Then, the focal point is moved along the normal direction and passes through the first face and the second face. The FES converts into a first focus error curve and a second focus error curve respectively when the focal point passes through the first and the second face. Afterwards, the thickness of the transparent layer is obtained according to the first focus error curve and the second focus error curve.

The invention discloses an optical disc comprising a substrate, a multi-layer structure, and a plurality of ribs. The substrate has a first surface and a second surface set opposite to the first surface. The multi-layer structure is formed on the first surface of the substrate and comprises at least one recording layer. The ribs are formed on the second surface of the substrate. The ribs are used for increasing the rigidity of the optical disc, such that a runout of the optical disc can be suppressed while the optical disc is rotated.

Disclosed is an optical disc having angular information and a wobble track. A wobble signal generated according to the wobble track includes a phase corresponding to an angle of the optical disc. A detecting system for detecting the angular information of the optical disc is also disclosed, which includes a wobble signal detecting apparatus, a reference clock signal generating apparatus, and a phase comparator. The wobble signal detecting apparatus is used for detecting the wobble track on the optical disc to generate a wobble signal. The reference clock signal generating apparatus is used for generating a reference clock signal according to the wobble signal. The phase comparator is used for comparing the wobble signal and the reference clock signal to obtain the angular information of the optical disc. Alternatively, the wobble signal detecting apparatus can be used for detecting the wobble signal on the optical disc.

The light source of the optical reading apparatus emits light, which is converged onto a storing medium by the lens for accessing data stored in the storage medium. The liquid crystal layer is disposed in an optical path between the light source and the storage medium. The electrode set provides a variable electrical field across the liquid crystal layer for changing the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer. Aberration of the optical reading apparatus can thus be corrected.

Optical recording media are provided. An optical recording medium for an optical pick-up unit includes a first substrate, a recording layer disposed on the first substrate, a second substrate, a thermo-sensitive layer disposed on the second substrate, a reflective layer disposed on the thermo-sensitive layer and an adhesive layer. The adhesive layer connects the reflective layer and the recording layer, such that the first and second substrates are fixed. When the optical pickup unit is in a recording mode, it emits a laser beam to the recording layer for data recording. When the optical pick-up unit switches from the recording mode to a labeling mode, the laser beam focuses on the reflective layer, and the thermo-sensitive layer is heated to change color thereof.
