Abstract: A motor calibration system and method for a motor having a rotor and a stator and comprising at least one phase. The system further comprises at least one position detector adapted to detect a position of the rotor with respect to the stator and generate a feedback signal and a controller adapted to perform a calibration sequence to calibrate to motor. Wherein the controller calibrates the motor by driving at least one motor phase with a motor control signal at a predetermined maximum amplitude value in a first direction with substantially no load applied on the motor, receiving a feedback signal from the at least one position detector, and determining a first calibration angle shift by measuring a difference between at least the motor control signal and the feedback signal of the at least one motor phase. The controller accounts for the first calibration angle shift when driving the motor in the first direction during normal operation. According to one embodiment, the controller may determine a second calibration angle shift for a second direction in a similar manner. According to another embodiment, the may determine the second calibration angle shift using a transformation function and a predetermined angle shift sum constant.

Abstract: A motorized window treatment configure for automatically determining and reporting the tilt level of a motorized window treatment. The motorized window treatment comprises a window covering material, a motor configured for moving the window covering material from an opened position to a closed position, an accelerometer configured for measuring gravitational forces, and a controller configured for reporting the tilt level of the motorized window treatment. Particularly, the controller receives gravitational force measurements from the accelerometer, determines a tilt level of the motorized window treatment using the gravitational force measurements, compares the tilt level to a first threshold value, and issues an error signal when the tilt level exceeds the first threshold value.

Abstract: Presented is a roller shade motor system that includes a motor with an end portion, a latch assembly disposed on the end portion, and a bracket. The latch assembly includes an alignment member and at least one moveable clip. The bracket includes a clip contact surface and defines an alignment member opening dimensioned and arranged for receiving the alignment member. The moveable clip is retracted into the alignment member during insertion of the alignment member into the alignment member opening and is extended out of the alignment member and contacts the clip contact surface after insertion and couples the motor to the bracket.

Abstract: A roller shade comprising a motor pretensioned counterbalancing spring that lowers the torque load on the motor of the roller shade throughout the rolling up or rolling down cycles. The roller shade comprises a motor drive unit including a motor adapted to drive a drive wheel through a clutch. The motor drive unit further comprises a first spring carrier adapted to be stationary during operation of the motor and a second spring carrier adapted to rotate during operation of the motor. The motor drive unit further comprises a counterbalancing spring connected at its first end to the first spring carrier and at its second end to the second spring carrier. The counterbalancing spring is pretensioned using the motor prior to inserting the motor drive unit into the roller tube by driving the drive wheel and thereby rotating the second end of the counterbalancing spring with respect to the first end of the counterbalancing spring. The clutch translates rotational motion from the motor to the drive wheel, but locks rotational motion from the drive wheel thereby locking the pretension in the counterbalancing spring.

Abstract: A shade assembly comprising a roller tube, a shade material connected at its one end to the roller tube, and a motor disposed inside the roller tube and adapted to rotate the roller tube to roll and unroll the shade material onto and from the roller tube while the motor remains stationary. The shade assembly further comprises a motor head disposed at a terminal end of the roller tube, the motor head comprises a substantially disc shaped motor head locking member having at least one locking tab extending from a side surface thereof and at least one contact pin extending from a terminal end thereof. The shade assembly further comprises a first installation bracket adapted to be secured to an architectural structure and comprising a substantially disc shaped installation bracket locking member comprising at least one locking arm and at least one contact pad. The motor head locking member is adapted to removably attach to the installation bracket locking member by aligning the locking tab of the motor head locking member adjacent to the locking arm of the installation bracket locking member and rotating the roller tube until the locking tab is locked by the at least one locking arm and the contact pin comes into electrical contact with the at least one contact pad.

Abstract: Battery operated shade comprising a shade material operably connected at its top end to a motor drive unit that raises and lowers the shade material between an upper limit and a lower limit to adjustably cover a structural opening. The shade comprises a housing that at least partially conceals the motor drive unit. The shade further comprises a battery compartment for providing power to the motor drive unit and a pair of swing arms each pivotally connected at their proximal end to the shade housing and at their distal end to the battery compartment. The pair of swing arm are adapted to pivot with respect to the shade housing to swivel the battery compartment from a first position, where the battery compartment is at least partially concealed by the shade housing and the pair of swing arms are retained by a pair of retaining clips, to a second position where the battery compartment extends out of the shade housing.

Abstract: A pair of shade brackets and a diverter are provided for diverting a shade material of a roller shade to a fixed drop down position. The pair of mounting brackets are adapted to secure to a structure and retain the roller shade therebetween. Each mounting bracket comprises a diverter retaining portion. The diverter comprises a diverter roller and a pair of bearings disposed on two opposite ends of the diverter roller. The diverter is removably retained between the pair of mounting brackets such that each bearing is engaged by a respective diverter retaining portion and the diverter roller is adapted to freely rotate via the bearings. As the shade material is raised or lowered, the diverter roller rolls on the shade material via the bearings.
