Abstract: A system includes a first working fluid compressor configured to pressurize a working fluid, and a prime mover coupled to the first working fluid compressor and configured to provide a mechanical input into the first working fluid compressor. An exhaust assembly is coupled to the prime mover and is configured to receive exhaust heat from the prime mover, the exhaust assembly including a generator configured to generate electric current based on the exhaust heat received by the exhaust assembly. A second working fluid compressor includes an electric motor electrically and synchronously coupled to the generator and configured to pressurize the working fluid.

Abstract: A turbine blade includes an internal vibration damping system having a plurality of unit cells. Each unit cell includes: an impacting structure; and a cavity encapsulating the impacting structure. The cavity, which includes a first hemisphere and a second hemisphere, is disposed within a substrate, which forms an outer casing of the cavity. At least one fluid is disposed in each of the first and second hemispheres between the impacting structure and the outer casing.

Abstract: In one aspect, a dual pitch bearing configuration for coupling a rotor blade to a hub of a wind turbine. The dual pitch bearing configuration including a first pitch bearing and at least one additional pitch bearing disposed axially a distance LB from the first pitch bearing. The dual pitch bearing configuration further including one or more spacers disposed between the first pitch bearing and the at least one additional pitch bearing and extending the distance LB. The dual pitch bearing disposed radially within one of a blade root of the rotor blade, a hub extension or a bearing housing and coupled thereto. The dual pitch bearing configuration minimizing moment loading on the first pitch bearing and the at least one additional pitch bearing. A wind turbine including the dual pitch bearing configuration is further disclosed.

Abstract: A shaft assembly for a rotary machine, the rotary machine includes a low pressure compressor, a high pressure compressor, a high pressure turbine, and a low pressure turbine. The shaft assembly includes an outer shaft configured to couple the high pressure compressor to the high pressure turbine. The outer shaft includes a first forward bearing assembly positioned forward of the high pressure compressor, and a first aft bearing assembly positioned between the high pressure compressor and the high pressure turbine. The shaft assembly also includes an inner shaft rotatable about a common axis with the outer shaft that at least partially extends about the inner shaft. The inner shaft is configured to couple the low pressure compressor to the low pressure turbine. The inner shaft includes a second forward bearing assembly positioned forward of the low pressure compressor, and a second aft bearing assembly positioned proximate the high pressure turbine.

Abstract: A planet gear train for an engine casing includes a sun gear rotatable by a shaft, a ring gear, a plurality of planet gears rotatably mounted in a planet carrier and meshing with the sun gear and the ring gear, and a damping system. The damping system includes a soft mount disposed about the shaft and coupling the planet carrier the engine casing. The soft mount includes a flexible inner sleeve and a flexible outer sleeve. The flexible inner sleeve and the flexible outer sleeve are fixedly coupled together at respective central portions thereof near the shaft. The damping system further includes a plurality of damping couplers disposed about an outer flange of the planet carrier. The plurality of damping couplers is configured to flexibly couple the flexible inner sleeve to the flexible outer sleeve.

Abstract: A seal assembly for a rotary machine is provided. The seal assembly includes a plurality of seal segments disposed circumferentially intermediate to a stationary housing and a rotor, where each of the plurality of seal segments includes a stator interface element and a shoe plate movably supported by the stator interface element. The shoe plate includes one or more labyrinth teeth, a load-bearing surface, and one or more supply ports for facilitating supply of high pressure fluid toward the rotor. In one embodiment, the shoe plate also includes a radially extending portion that is in contact with a portion of the ring movably supported into the stator interface element. In another embodiment, each of the plurality of seal segments includes a plurality of overlapping spring-loaded leaf seal plates in contact with the stator interface element and the radially extending portion. Method of operating the seal segment is also disclosed.
