Abstract: A heat exchanger is provided that can include furcating unit cells coupled with each other. Each of the unit cells can be elongated along an axis and include a sidewall that defines annular ring openings on opposite ends of the unit cell along the axis. The sidewall also can define undulating annular rings between the annular ring openings and axially separated from each other along the axis. The sidewall can further define angled openings into the unit cell both above and below each of the undulating annular rings. At least a first opening of the annular ring openings and the angled openings can be configured to be an inlet to receive a first fluid into the unit cell and at least a second opening of the annular ring openings and the angled openings configured to be an outlet through which the first fluid exits the unit cell.

Abstract: A carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system and method for removing CO2 from an inlet gas including a first fluid stream inlet providing for the flow of a first fluid stream, such as an inlet gas containing CO2, and a second fluid stream inlet providing for the flow of a second fluid stream, such as steam, an outlet providing for the flow of a CO2 depleted stream from the CO2 capture system, an outlet providing for the flow of a CO2 stream from the CO2 capture system and a concentrator in fluid communication with the first fluid stream. The system further including a first contactor and a second contactor. Each of the first contactor and the second contactor defining therein a first fluidically-isolated, sorbent-integrated, fluid domain for flow of the first fluid stream and CO2 adsorption and a second fluidically-isolated fluid domain for flow of the second fluid stream to assist in desorption.

Abstract: A cooling assembly includes walls extending around and defining an enclosed vapor chamber that holds a working fluid. An interior porous wick structure is disposed inside the chamber and lines interior surfaces of the walls. The wick structure includes pores that hold a liquid phase of the working fluid. The cooling assembly also includes an exterior porous wick structure lining exterior surfaces of the walls outside of the vapor chamber. The exterior wick structure includes pores that hold a liquid phase of a cooling fluid outside the vapor chamber. The interior wick structure holds the liquid working fluid until heat from an external heat source vaporizes the working fluid inside the vapor chamber. The exterior wick structure holds the liquid fluid outside the vapor chamber until heat from inside the vapor chamber vaporizes the liquid cooling fluid in the exterior wick structure for transferring heat away from the heat source.

Abstract: A recuperator includes a monolithic heat exchanger core having a first side proximal to a combustor inlet and a turbine outlet, and a second side that includes an exhaust outlet. A compressed air inlet is located on the second side, and a compressed air outlet is located on the first side. The compressed air outlet supplies air to a combustor. A first plurality of passageways connects the compressed air inlet to the compressed air outlet. A turbine exhaust inlet is located on the first side, and a turbine exhaust outlet is located on the second side. A second plurality of passageways connects the turbine exhaust inlet to the turbine exhaust outlet. The first and second plurality of passageways are defined by parting plates that extend radially outward in a spiral pattern that maintains a substantially equal distance between adjacent parting plates.

Abstract: An aerodynamic dome component that is placed in front of a wind turbine hub includes an outer ring, a central axle disposed relative to the outer ring, a plurality of radially extending tensioning members and a skin-like covering. The plurality of radially extending tensioning members are coupled to the outer ring at a first end and to the central axle at a second end. The outer ring, the plurality of radially extending tensioning members and the central axle together form an underlying dome support structure. The skin-like covering is configured to envelop at least a portion of the underlying dome support structure to form at least a portion of the aerodynamic dome component and define a front dome portion. The skin-like covering enveloping at least a portion of the underlying dome support structure may further define a rear dome portion, wherein the rear dome portion is configured downwind from the front dome portion.
