Abstract: Disclosed is a winch with a spool having an axis of rotation and a helical groove formed thereon and a line around the spool in the helical groove. The winch also includes a motor configured to rotate the spool in a first direction to wind the line on the spool and a second direction to unwind the line from the spool. The helical groove includes a line cradle shaped to carry the line with a portion of the line protruding from the helical groove, and a channel extending below the line cradle. A portion of the channel is not occupied by the line. The winch also includes a line guide adjacent to the spool and configured to move axially along the spool. The line guide includes a tab that engages the channel to cause the line guide to move axially along the spool to wind or unwind the line.

Abstract: A load-leveling hanging apparatus and a system for suspended lifting of objects are disclosed. The load-leveling hanging apparatus includes a carriage suspended from a line; a hanging beam adapted for attachment of multiple objects at points along the beam; a mechanism for moving the hanging beam relative to the carriage to thereby achieve a level condition; and a level indicator. The mechanism is a rotatable screw. The system includes the load-leveling hanging apparatus and a lifting device. The lifting device includes a drum for winding and unwinding a line; a motor coupled to the drum to apply a torque thereto; a guide to direct the line onto the drum; and a controller. The lifting device raises and lowers the suspended hanging apparatus.

Abstract: The invention is a kit for attaching to a truck cap to enable the cap to be lifted off of and lowered onto a truck by lines from above. The kit includes: a first rail and a second rail, each configured to attach to the truck cap; a first pair of sliding masts for releasably attaching to the first rail and a second pair of sliding masts for releasably attaching to the second rail. Each of the sliding mast includes: a sled which is captured by the rail, and is slidable along the rail, and is adapted to be secured at various points along the rail; and a brace with one end attached to the sled and the other end adapted to receive one of the lines. In another aspect, the kit includes multiple lifting devices.

Abstract: A device for filtering air for a user comprising a frame formed in a generally oval-shaped band, the band encircling the user's head, with an upper portion above the user's head and a lower portion proximate to and spaced apart from the user's chin, an intake aperture formed in the frame, and an intake air filter covering the intake aperture. The device includes an air mover chamber attached with an air-tight seal to an inside surface of the frame and communicating on one end with the intake air filter and communicating on another end with a filtered air supply inlet inside the device and an air mover disposed within the air mover chamber and configured to draw air through the intake air filter and push air out the filtered air supply inlet. The device also includes an exhaust aperture formed in the frame and an exhaust air filter covering the exhaust aperture. The device further includes a transparent face shield attached with an air-tight seal to a front surface of the frame, the shield providing a space for air between an inside surface of the face shield and the user's face, and a fabric component comprising a first portion that is air permeable configured to cover the frame and filters and a second portion that is air impermeable extending from a back surface of the frame to cover a remaining portion of the user's head and encircle the user's neck.

Abstract: A fairlead for use with a winch is disclosed. The fairlead includes: a device for detecting a speed at which a line is being spooled or unspooled from the winch, a first and second roller adapted to aid in spooling or unspooling a line, a fairlead motor for driving at least the first roller, and a controller connected to the fairlead motor. The controller is in communication with the device for detecting the speed. The controller is configured to direct the fairlead motor to drive at least the first roller at a speed that maintains tension on the line as it is unspooling or spooling. Alternatively, the device measures current drawn by the fairlead motor and the controller directs the fairlead motor to drive the rollers at a speed that maintains a target current draw.

Abstract: A label and methods and devices for detecting an environmental factor that exceeds a threshold are described. The label includes a plurality of codable areas. The first portion of the plurality of codable areas are coded according to a first value and the second portion of the plurality of codable areas are coded according to a second value. The label additionally includes an environmentally triggered bubble positioned in one of the plurality of codable areas. The environmentally triggered bubble changes between the first value and the second value when ruptured. As a result, the code that the label represents changes when the environmentally triggered bubble ruptures.

Abstract: A toilet comprising a frame; a bowl supported by the frame; a seat also supported by the frame; a shroud covering the frame; a lift mechanism supported by the frame for adjusting the position of the seat; a foot platform positioned to support the feet of a user sitting on the seat wherein the foot platform comprises a plurality of foot platform weight sensors; a plurality of seat weight sensors between the frame and the seat for measuring the weight of a user on the seat; and a controller receiving data from the plurality of foot platform weight sensors and from the plurality of seat weight sensors; wherein the controller uses the data from the foot platform weight sensors to calculate the weight distribution of the user between the seat and foot platform; and wherein the controller uses the data from the foot platform weight sensors to calculate the weight distribution of the user between the left and right side of the foot platform; and wherein the controller uses the calculated weight distributions to control the at least one lift mechanism is disclosed.
