摘要: An ultra lightweight semiconductor device such as a photovoltaic device is fabricated on a non-etchable barrier layer which is disposed upon an etchable substrate. The device is contacted with an appropriate etchant for a period of time sufficient to remove at least a portion of the thickness of the substrate. The barrier layer prevents damage to the photovoltaic material during the etching process. Photovoltaic devices fabricated by this method have specific power levels in excess of 300 w/kg.

摘要: A method of extracting ethanol from a feed solution using a liquid-liquid extraction system including an outer chamber and an inner chamber. The outer chamber is adapted to contain one of a feed solution and a liquid extractant and defines a containment region. The inner chamber is adapted to contain the other of the feed solution and the liquid extractant within a lower portion of the inner chamber. The inner chamber is defined by a microporous membrane sleeve that internally maintains a frame. Upon final assembly, at least the lower portion of the inner chamber is positioned within the containment region of the outer chamber such that the microporous membrane sleeve establishes an extraction interface between contents of the inner and outer chambers.

The method including the acts of conducting an operation including the battery pack, measuring a first measurement of the battery pack condition, measuring a second measurement of the battery pack condition, averaging the first measurement and the second measurement to provide an average measurement and if the average measurement is within the range, continuing the operation including the battery pack. At least one of the first measurement and the second measurement being outside of the range.

摘要: A combination including a battery pack and a battery charger operable to supply a charging current to the battery pack. The battery pack includes a first battery terminal, a second battery terminal, and a battery cell having a present state of charge. The battery cell is coupled to at least one of the first battery terminal and the second battery terminal. The battery pack also includes a battery microcontroller coupled to at least one of the first battery terminal and the second battery terminal. The microcontroller is operable to measure the present state of charge of the battery cell to produce battery cell present state of charge measurements. The battery charger includes a first charger terminal configured to couple to at least one of the first battery terminal and the second battery terminal and a second charger terminal configured to couple to at least one of the first battery terminal and the second battery terminal. The first charger terminal is configured to supply charging current to the battery pack. The battery charger also includes a charger microcontroller coupled to the second charger terminal and operable to receive the battery cell present state of charge measurements from the battery microcontroller. The charger microcontroller is also operable to supply the charging current to the battery pack in pulses, wherein each pulse includes a first time interval where charging current is being supplied to the battery and a second time interval where charging current is being suspended from the battery. The microcontroller is further operable to modify the first time interval of a pulse based at least in part on the battery cell present state of charge measurements received from the battery microcontroller.

In some aspects, a method of conducting an operation including a battery pack, includes the acts of monitoring a first battery pack condition at a first monitoring rate, determining when a second battery pack condition reaches a threshold, after the second battery pack condition reaches the threshold, monitoring the first battery pack condition at a second monitoring rate, the second monitoring rate being different than the first monitoring rate. In some aspects, a method of conducting an operation including a battery, the battery including a cell having a voltage, power being transferable between the cell and the electrical device, a controller operable to control a function of the battery pack, the controller being operable with a voltage at least one of equal to and greater than an operating voltage threshold, the cell being operable to selectively supply voltage to the controller, includes the act of enabling the controller to operate when the voltage supplied by the cell is below the operating voltage threshold.
