Abstract: Methods and systems are provided in this disclosure for operating an electronic device that includes a user interface, a microphone, and an electronic processor. The microphone captures an audio stream and the electronic processor analyzes the audio stream to identify spoken words captured by the microphone. The electronic processor detects a violation of a user assistance restriction for the current functional operation of the electronic device based at least in part on a correlation between one or more of the identified spoken words captured by the microphone and a current functional operation of the electronic device involving a manual text entry through the user interface of the electronic device. The electronic processor adjusts one or more operations of the electronic device in response to detecting the violation of the user assistance restriction.

Abstract: Methods and systems of breaking pursuit of a target. One example embodiment includes an electronic processor configured to develop a first identifier for the target and determine a breaking junction and an intercept point associated with a cornering route. The processor is configured to determine a geographical area associated with at least one possible target flee route for the target and determine a second identifier for an object within the geographical area. The processor is configured to develop a discrimination factor representing a degree of differentiation of the first identifier from the second identifier. The processor is configured to predict whether the discrimination factor will exceed a threshold when the pursuit asset arrives at the breaking junction. The processor is configured to, in response to the discrimination factor exceeding the threshold, notify the pursuit asset to break pursuit of the target at the breaking junction to execute the cornering route.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing a correct voice command. One system includes a communication device that includes an electronic processor configured to receive a first voice command via a microphone and analyze the first voice command using a first type of voice recognition. The electronic processor determines that an action to be performed in accordance with the first voice command is unrecognizable based on the analysis using the first type of voice recognition. The electronic processor transmits the first voice command to a remote electronic computing device accompanying a request requesting that the first voice command be analyzed using a second type of voice recognition different from the first type of voice recognition. The electronic processor receives, from the remote electronic computing device, a second voice command corresponding to the action and different from the first voice command, and outputs, with a speaker, the second voice command.

A device comprises: a radio configured to communicate on a plurality of talkgroups; a talkgroup selector; a touchscreen display; and a controller. The controller is configured to: render, at the touchscreen display, an item associated with a first talkgroup, of the plurality of talkgroups; receive, at the touchscreen display, hold touch input at the item; receive, at the talkgroup selector, a selection of a second talkgroup, of the plurality of talkgroups; after the second talkgroup is selected, determine that the hold touch input has ended; and, in response, share, using the radio, the item in the second talkgroup.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for inputting voice into an application is provided herein. During operation a “channel-change” knob (sometimes referred to as a selector knob) on a radio will be utilized to cycle between talkgroups/channels for over-the-air voice transmission. Additionally, the channel-change knob on the radio will be used to cycle between applications stored on the radio. A push-to-talk button on the radio will serve as a trigger to collect voice input for a selected talkgroup for over-the-air transmission when a talkgroup is selected, and will also serve as a trigger to collect voice input for an application when the application is selected.

Abstract: Systems and methods described for text entry for multi-user text-based communication using a portable communication device with a graphical user interface shown on a display. A plurality of text character icons are displayed on a display by an electronic processor in a center area of the graphical user interface and messages are displayed along a perimeter area of the graphical user interface. A selection of one or more text character icons in the center area of the graphical user interface is detected and a new text message is generated based on the detected selection of the one or more text character icons. The new text message is chronologically inserted and displayed in accordance with the chronological sequence along the perimeter of the graphical user interface. The new text message is then transmitted from the device.

Abstract: A user interface apparatus and method are provided for gloved and non-gloved touch sensitive button actuation. A user interface (100) embodied as a body wearable harness (104) provides a touch button control system having an activation button (120) and functional touch sensitive control buttons (108, 110, 140). The activation button (120) has a capacitive touch element (130) associated therewith that determines gloved or non-gloved operation based on a capacitive measurement taken in response to a finger input to the button. A plurality of control buttons (108, 110, and 140) are automatically assigned increased sensitivity levels in response to detected gloved mode operation in accordance with the measurement. The increased sensitivity levels allow various radio functions to be accessed by a gloved finger input during gloved mode operation with increased reliability. Additional control button identification can be added through the addition of vibrational alerts. Display and screen type control buttons can further be combined into larger and fewer buttons for ease of gloved landing.
