Abstract: Lubricant compositions comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) at least one non-metal-containing additive, comprising a nitrogen-containing dispersant having a total base number of at least about 90 are useful for lubricating an internal combustion engine. The lubricants have less than 1.0% sulfated ash and a total base number of at least about 8.5, and at least 30% of the total base number of the composition is provided by non-metal-containing additives. The lubricants exhibit a high TBN without deterioration of elastomeric seals.
