摘要: Provided are a viscosity modifier for lubricating oils for obtaining an additive composition for lubricating oils having excellent fluidity in a wide temperature range from low temperature to high temperature; and said additive composition for lubricating oils. Further provided are a viscosity modifier for lubricating oils for obtaining a lubricating oil composition capable of reducing viscosity in good balance in a wide temperature range from low temperature to high temperature; and said lubricating oil composition. The viscosity modifier for lubricating oils includes an ethylene α-olefin copolymer (A) which includes 30 to 50 mole % of structural units derived from at least one α-olefin selected from α-olefins having 4 and 5 carbon atoms and 50 to 70 mole % of structural units derived from ethylene (with the proviso that the total of all structural units of said copolymer is 100 mole %) and which satisfies specific requirements (a), (b), and (c).

摘要: A method for improving oxidation stability and viscosity control, while maintaining or improving cleanliness performance and deposit control, in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and a mixture of (i) at least one detergent, and (ii) at least one antioxidant, or a mixture of (i) at least one detergent, (ii) at least one dispersant, and (iii) at least one antioxidant, as minor components. The at least one detergent comprises a sulfonate detergent, the at least one dispersant comprises a borated dispersant, and the at least one antioxidant includes an alkylated diphenylamine. The engine or other mechanical component is lubricated with the lubricating oil operating in the presence of biodiesel fuel. A lubricating oil formulated with the above major and minor components.

The formulated oil has a composition including a lubricating oil base stock as a major component, and (i) at least one transition metal salt of a carboxylic acid (e.g., zinc stearate) or (ii) a mixture of at least one transition metal salt of a carboxylic acid (e.g., zinc stearate) and at least one detergent (i.e., an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of an organic acid, or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of an inorganic acid, or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of a phenol, or mixtures thereof (e.g., calcium salicylate and/or magnesium sulfonate)), as a minor component. The lubricating oils are useful in internal combustion engines.

摘要: The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity; and (b) a compound selected from the group consisting of: (i) an ester-containing heterocycle; (ii) an amide-containing heterocycle; and (iii) a pyrimidine, wherein the ester-containing heterocycle and the amide-containing heterocycle have a hydrocarbyl group containing 6 to 40 carbon atoms. The invention further provides for a method of supplying an internal combustion engine with the lubricating composition.
