摘要: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to optical broadcast buses configured with shared optical interfaces for fan-in and fan-out of optical signals. In one aspect, an optical broadcast bus comprises a number of optical interfaces, a fan-in bus optically coupled to the number of optical interfaces, and a fan-out bus optically coupled to the number of optical interfaces. Each optical interface is configured to convert an electrical signal produced by the at least one node into an optical signal that is received and directed by the fan-in bus to the fan-out bus and broadcast by the fan-out bus to the number of optical interfaces. Each optical interface also converts the optical signal into an electrical signal that is sent to the electronically coupled at least one node for processing.

摘要: Beam couplers and splitters are disclosed herein. An embodiment of a beam coupler and splitter includes a first waveguide including a bevel and a bend, and a second waveguide including a bevel complementarily shaped to the first waveguide bevel. The first waveguide bevel is configured to totally internally reflect at least some light incident thereon. The second waveguide is coupled to the first waveguide such that i) the second waveguide bevel is adjacent to at least a portion of the first waveguide bevel, and ii) a predetermined coupling ratio is achieved.

摘要: An electronic system includes a plurality of electronic nodes, each having a transmitter module and a plurality of receiver modules, in which the transmitter module is positioned at a same location with respect to the receiver modules in each of the electronic nodes, and a plurality of fanout optical buses, each fanout optical bus comprising a transmitter section, a plurality of receiver sections, and at least one substantially straight optical waveguide extending between the plurality of receiver sections, wherein each transmitter section is optically connected to a transmitter module of a respective one of the electronic nodes and wherein the receiver sections of each of the fanout optical buses is connected to respective ones of the receiver modules of the electronic nodes.

摘要: A solid core, multi-channel optical coupler comprising an elongate mixer body having an input end, an output end and sidewalls forming a length of the mixer body, where the input end is configured for coupling to a plurality of input channels providing an optical signal for transmission through the mixer body, and a plurality of output tapers coupled to the output end. Each of the output tapers has a reception area adjacent the output end of the mixer body for receiving a portion of the optical signal transmitted through the mixer body. Furthermore, the reception area of each output taper is variable to vary the intensity of the optical signal received by the output taper.

In one aspect, an optical fiber connector includes a multilens array and at least one alignment post. The lenses protrude from a first surface of a transparent plate, and the least one alignment post protrudes from a second surface of the transparent plate opposites the first surface. The connector includes a first standoff frame disposed on the first surface and a second standoff frame disposed on the second surface.

摘要: A hybrid electro-optical package for an opto-electronic engine. The package includes a carrier substrate, and a package base. Electrical vias and an optical via of the carrier substrate communicate between a back side and a front side of the carrier substrate. The package base is coupled to the carrier substrate by intra-package electrical interconnects. The carrier substrate is to interconnect electrically with an opto-electronic component mounted on its back side, and includes an optical aperture at its front side for communication of optical signals. Similarly, lands disposed at a front side of the package base provide for communication of electrical signals to an integrated circuit and the opto-electronic component. A system and an opto-electronic engine that include the hybrid electro-optical package are also provided.

摘要: Systems and a method for routing optical signals are disclosed. One system includes a first large core hollow metal waveguide configured to guide a substantially coherent optical beam. A second large core hollow waveguide is optically coupled to the first waveguide with a coupling device. The coupling device is configured to divide the coherent optical beam into a transmitted beam and a reflected beam. Beam walk-off within the coupling device causes the transmitted beam to be shifted by an offset amount. The second large core hollow metal waveguide is shifted from the first large core hollow metal waveguide by approximately the offset amount to receive the shifted transmitted beam.

摘要: A waveguide array can comprise a base portion having a metalized inner surface, an outer surface, and a clean end surface. The inner surface can include a plurality of waveguide channels that are metalized. The clean end surface can be prepared by breaking the base portion along a groove positioned on the outer surface prior to breaking, where the groove is oriented to intersect the waveguide channels. A metalized cover portion is attached to the inner surface of the base portion to close the waveguide channels.

The system includes a large core hollow waveguide (30) having a reflective coating (40) covering an interior surface (32) of the hollow waveguide configured to guide a light beam (104). At least one area based beam splitter (50) is integrally formed with the hollow waveguide and has an angled reflective surface (52) with a selectable height (H) relative to the interior surface. The angled reflective surface is oriented to redirect a predetermined amount of the light beam (114) based on the height of the angled reflective surface.
