Abstract: Techniques and systems are provided for processing video data. For example, video data can be obtained for processing by an encoding device or a decoding device. Bi-predictive motion compensation can then be performed for a current block of a picture of the video data. Performing the bi-predictive motion compensation includes deriving one or more local illumination compensation parameters for the current block using a template of the current block, a first template of a first reference picture, and a second template of a second reference picture. The templates can include neighboring samples of the current block, the first reference picture, and the second reference picture. The first template of the first reference picture and the second template of the second reference picture can be used simultaneously to derive the one or more local illumination compensation parameters.

Abstract: A method of processing video data includes determining, by processing circuitry, a plurality of neighboring samples for predicting a current block. The plurality of neighboring samples are arranged outside of a region of a current picture, the region comprising the current block, a row of samples adjacent to a top row of the current block, and a column of samples adjacent to a left column of the current block. Abstract: A method of decoding video data includes determining, by a video decoder, a neighboring block in a current frame is inter coded. The method includes determining, by the video decoder, a reference block in a reference frame corresponding to the template for the current block and determining, by the video decoder, motion vector information for the current frame based on the reference block and the template. The method includes generating, by the video decoder, a predictive block for the current block of video data based on the motion vector information and decoding, by the video decoder, the current block of video data based on the predictive block.

Abstract: A video coding device includes a memory configured to store video data, and processing circuitry in communication with the memory. The processing circuitry is configured to determine that a current block of the video data stored to the memory is to be coded according to a merge mode, and to determine a temporal candidate associated with a merge candidate list for the current block in accordance with the merge mode. Abstract: An example device for coding video data is configured to determine that a block of the video data includes a plurality of sub-blocks, each of the sub-blocks having respective motion information referring to respective reference blocks in a reference picture in a memory, determine a single reference block of the reference picture, the single reference block including each of the respective reference blocks, wherein determining the single reference block comprises: determine four corner sub-blocks of the block included in the plurality of sub-blocks; and determine the single reference block according to the respective motion information for the four corner sub-blocks such that corners of the single reference block correspond to corners of the respective reference blocks of the four corner sub-blocks, retrieve data of the single reference block from the reference picture, and predict the sub-blocks from the respective reference blocks using the data of the single reference block.
