Abstract: A method of desulfating seawater includes adding a produced water to a sulfated seawater, forming a first precipitate, separating the first precipitate from the sulfated seawater, measuring the sulfate ion concentration of the desulfated seawater, adding a precipitating agent to the sulfated seawater, and separating a second precipitate from the sulfated seawater. Another method of desulfating seawater includes determining concentrations of sulfates in a sulfated seawater and a precipitating agent in a produced water, adding the produced water to the sulfated seawater based on the determined concentrations of sulfates in the sulfated seawater and the precipitating agent in the produced water, forming a first precipitate, separating the first precipitate from the sulfated seawater, measuring the sulfate ion concentration of the desulfated seawater, adding a precipitating agent to a sulfated seawater, and separating a second precipitate from the sulfated seawater.

Abstract: A composition for inhibiting corrosion in hydrocarbon wells includes a pyranopyrazole derivative. The pyranopyrazole derivative includes a pyrazole moiety, a dihydropyran moiety, and a phenyl moiety. The dihydropyran moiety is bound to the pyrazole moiety. The phenyl moiety is bound to the dihydropyran moiety. The composition can be flowed into a wellbore formed in a subterranean formation, thereby inhibiting corrosion in the wellbore.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a method of producing a viscoelastic surfactant (VES) fluid, the VES fluid comprising desulfated seawater. The method of producing the VES fluid comprises adding an alkaline earth metal halide to seawater to produce a sulfate precipitate. The method further comprises removing the sulfate precipitate to produce the desulfated water. The method further comprises adding a VES and one or more of a nanoparticle viscosity modifier or a polymeric modifier to the desulfated seawater. Other embodiments are directed to VES fluids that maintain a viscosity greater than 10 cP at temperatures above 250° F.

Abstract: Treating carbon steel tubing includes contacting the carbon steel tubing with a first treatment solution including a salt; corroding the carbon steel tubing with the salt to yield a corroded surface on the carbon steel tubing; contacting the corroded surface on the carbon steel tubing with a second treatment solution comprising sulfide ions; and forming an iron sulfide layer on the corroded surface of the carbon steel tubing by chemically bonding the sulfide ions in the second treatment solution with iron in the carbon steel tubing. In some cases, the first treatment solution also includes sulfide ions, and the iron sulfide layer is formed by contacting the carbon steel tubing with the first treatment solution.
