    摘要: What is disclosed is a method of operating a communication system. The communication system includes wireless access nodes and a network control system, where user devices and the wireless access nodes communicate over wireless links, and the wireless access nodes and the network control system communicate over individually associated backhaul links. The method includes transferring forward communications in a forward direction from the network control system to a first one of the wireless access nodes over a forward link portion of a first backhaul link associated with the first wireless access node, and transferring reverse communications in a reverse direction from the first wireless access node to the network control system over a reverse link portion of the first backhaul link. The method also includes monitoring forward performance of the forward link portion and monitoring reverse performance of the reverse link portion, and identifying a second of the wireless access nodes to assist the first wireless access node. If the forward performance of the forward link portion exceeds a forward threshold, then the method includes instructing the first wireless access node to initiate a backup wireless link between the first wireless access node and the second wireless access node, and if the reverse performance of the reverse link portion exceeds a reverse threshold, then the method includes instructing the second wireless access node to initiate the backup wireless link between the first wireless access node and the second wireless access node. The method also includes using the backup wireless link to offload communications of the first backhaul link.

For example, if the access network has forward bearer-traffic data ready for transmission to the access terminal during connection establishment, the access network may decide to transmit that forward bearer-traffic data rather than forward null-traffic data in response to determining that a forward-channel quality of the wireless link is sufficient to carry such data. As another example, if the access terminal has reverse bearer-traffic data ready for transmission to the access network during connection establishment, the access terminal may decide to transmit that reverse bearer-traffic data rather than reverse null-traffic data in response to determining that a reverse-channel quality of the wireless link is sufficient to carry such data.

    摘要: Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for improving reverse link throughput using Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) across multiple wireless devices. In a particular embodiment, in response to receiving a user instruction to execute an application associated with a wireless protocol over a MIMO transmit antenna system, a method provides transferring a wireless probe signal to identify whether an external MIMO antenna element is available over another wireless protocol. The method further provides generating a signal with a Walsh code for the application and wirelessly transmitting the signal from an internal MIMO antenna element for receipt by a MIMO receive antenna system. The method further provides wirelessly transmitting the signal over the other wireless protocol, wherein a second wireless device including the external MIMO antenna element receives the signal and wirelessly transmits the signal from the external MIMO antenna element for receipt by the MIMO receive antenna system.

    摘要: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are provided for reducing the use of network resources during a conference call with mobile communications devices. An active conference call is detected between a conference bridge service, including a conference bridge leader, and participants who are ace sing the conference call by way of a mobile communications device in a wireless communications network. An indication is received that the conference bridge leader has muted the lines of the participants. As a result, each of these mobile communications devices are notified to stop transmitting data over a reverse link other than data used for signaling purposes until the devices are no longer muted.

A device carrying out the method may be arranged to not send negative acknowledgements for non-received packets. Further, in an implementation where the device is to send for each packet of an incoming sequence either a positive acknowledgement indicating that the device received the packet or a negative acknowledgement indicating that the device did not receive the packet (and constituting a request for retransmission of the packet), the device will send for each packet a positive acknowledgement regardless of whether the device received the packet. The device will thus send a positive acknowledgement for at least one packet even though the device did not receive the packet.
