    摘要： A method includes retrieving an intermediate node policy characterizing communication properties supported by an intermediate node, the intermediate node being between a source node and a destination node in a communication path. The method includes forming a first policy-compliant message in accordance with the intermediate node policy, the first policy-compliant message including a request for a destination node policy characterizing communication properties supported by the destination node. A system includes a policy retriever comparing a source policy to one to an intermediate policy to determine whether the source policy is compatible with the intermediate policy. A message generator generates a policy request message by applying the intermediate policy to a request for a policy related to a destination node.

    摘要： Profile controls for profiling a distributed application are included in messages that are also used by the distributed application to transport data. A profile initiator causes profile controls to be inserted in the header portion of a message that is being transported across a distributed system. The profile initiator may insert profile controls directly or may cause a message router that receives the message to merge profile controls into the message. The message router may receive profile controls from the profile initiator or from computer-readable media that are maintained at the message router. The message, which now includes distributed application data and profile controls, is routed to a message recipient. The message recipient accesses the message to identify profile actions that are to be performed at the message recipient. The message recipient performs at least one of the identified profile actions.

    摘要： Encoding and/or decoding of messages. On the encoding end, a composite encoder encodes message from an internal format that is used by internal system components into an external format. However, the composite encoder may encode the outgoing messages into different external formats on a per-message basis. For incoming message, a composite decoder decodes incoming messages from any one of a plurality of external formats into the internal format also on a per-message basis. A per-message report mechanism permits internal system components and the encoding/decoding components to communicate information regarding the encoding or decoding on a per message basis. XML messages can be converted automatically into Binary messages.
