A flat transformer may also have plural coil bodies. The plural coil bodies may be wound at plural stages. A part of the plural coil bodies is may be used to form a primary winding and the remainder of plural coil bodies may be used to form a secondary winding. The flat transformer can operate stably at a high frequency with a small loss.

Magnetic poles are provided continuously with a pitch .lambda. on the peripheral portion of a drum rotated in accordance with a movement of a moving body. A magnetic sensor is provided in opposition to these poles. The sensor is formed of two magnetoresistive element pairs which are spaced from each other at .lambda./6, and the two elements in each pair are arranged in positions spaced from each other at .lambda./2. The two elements in each pair are connected in series to form a bridge circuit. The signals obtained from the nodes of the series-connected elements in the two element pairs are differentially amplified so that third harmonic wave components are eliminated, and a signal having no distortion and representative of the position or speed of the moving body can be obtained.

A photographing light quantity controller for an endoscope is used to control the quantity of illuminating light when a photograph is to be taken through the endoscope. The photographing light quantity controller comprises a light source for supplying light for illuminating an object to the endoscope, and a device for detecting an illuminating condition in an observation state before a photographing operation is initiated. A device is also provided for controlling the brightness of illuminating light that is supplied from the light source to the endoscope during the photographing operation on the basis of a signal that is detected by the device for detecting an illuminating condition in the observation state.

A device for detecting a load torque using angle detectors fitted with a certain spacing on a shaft which is rotated by a drive source and on the basis of a relative angular difference of angles detected by the angle detectors. The device includes two rotary drums or discs fitted with a certain spacing on the drive side and load side of the shaft, with a plurality of magnetic poles for generating magnetic signals being formed on the surface thereof, and a magnetic sensor disposed to confront the surface of the rotary drums or discs, with magnetic resistance effect elements which vary in internal resistance in response to the magnetism of the magnetic poles being provided thereon. The amount of torsion created by the load on the load side of the rotary shaft is measured as a phase difference of outputs of the magnetic sensor, and the torque is detected in terms of the angular difference between the magnetic drums or discs. The device is operative to detect a torque in both storage and rotation, and capable of detection within a period of magnetic signal, whereby high-accuracy, high-resolution torque detection is made possible.

A magnetic position detector having a rotary magnetic recording medium which is movable with a movable body the position of which is to be detected. The rotary magnetic recording medium is divided into plural channels, each of which includes two tracks. A magnetic sensor is disposed to face the magnetic recording medium with a predetermined air gap therebetween and includes two sets of magnetoresistive elements spaced by a predetermined distance for each channel. Each set of magnetoresistive elements includes two elements wherein the first elements of the two sets face one of the tracks of a channel and the second elements of the other of the two sets faces the other track and the first and second elements of the two sets are formed as one body with adjacent ends of the first and second elements being coupled with each other. The coupled adjacent ends are connected to either one of first terminals for deriving output voltages from the magnetoresistive elements or to second terminals for supplying the magnetoresistive elements with source voltage. The non-adjacent ends of the first and second elements which are opposite to the coupled ends are connected to the other of the first and second terminals. In this manner, the sensor can be made small in size and the resistivity against noise is enhanced.

In a gate pulse generator for a thyristor converter of the type in which in order to fire thyristors of the thyristor converter in which each arm is comprised of a plurality of series-connected thyristors, the gate pulses are generated in response to the gate command signal and the thyristor forward voltage signal and are converted into the light signals which in turn are transmitted to the thyristor converter, whether or not the forward voltage signal exists when the gate command signal is generated is detected and when the forward voltage signal is generated prior to the generation of the gate command signal, the pulse duration is narrowed to a minimum required for firing the thyristor. When the forward voltage signal is generated during the time interval in which the gate command signal continues, the differences in time point when the forward voltage signals are generated among the thyristors due to the storage carrier differences therebetween are taken into consideration so that the pulse duration is increased. Therefore, from the standpoint of the frequency of occurrence, the thyristors can be fired in response to the pulse signal with a narrow pulse duration in almost all cases.

A magnetic detector for detecting the angle, position speed of rotation of a rotating body or the rectinear position, distance or speed of a rectinearly moving body is used opposite to a magnetic recording medium. The magnetic detector includes a plurality of elongated stripe-shaped magnetoresistive elements juxtaposed on a non-magnetic substrate. Bridge output terminals are provided adjoining to first identical ends of the respective magnetoresistive elements in the longitudinal directions thereof while common terminals are disposed adjoining to second ends of the magnetoresistive elements. Either bridge output or common terminals extend round the outside of the magnetoresistive elements to positions adjacent to the common or bridge output terminals. Thus, the total width of the magnetoresistive elements pattern can be greatly reduced, thereby providing a magnetic detector of high performance in which the influence of fluctuations of gap or spacing between the magnetic detector and the magnetic recording medium used together therewith.

A pulse width control apparatus and method for controlling motor speed wherein the number of pulses relating to more speed feedback data is counted so as to control the speed of the motor in accordance with a speed command data and a pulse width modulation signal based on the counted number of pulses. A free-running hardware timer and a soft-timer on a program controlled by an instruction execution time of a microcomputer are arranged so that ON-time data and OFF-time data of the pulse width modulation signal are selectively set in one and the other of the hardware and soft-timers in dependence on values of the ON and OFF times, respectively. The ON and OFF states of the pulse width modulation signal are changed when the contents of the hardware and soft-timers reach predetermined values so as to control the pulse width thereof.
