    摘要: A sensor assembly for sensing angular position of one object relative to another object. A capacitor is formed between a transmitter capacitor plate having a pair of transmitter electrodes and a receiver capacitor plate having preferably eight receiver electrodes forming four receiver electrode pairs. A dielectric rotor rotates between the plates, the rotor having first and second segments each subtending 67.5 which are mutually separated by a vacancy subtending 45 degrees, and further having a third segment subtending 45 degrees disposed between the first and second segments diametrically opposite the vacancy. An electrical circuit measures net charge induced on each of the receiver electrode pairs, wherein the charges indicate the angular position of said rotor relative to said transmitter and receiver capacitor plates.

    摘要: Certain characteristics of Diesel engine lubrication oil are determined. A sensor formed as a capacitor is immersed in the oil. An inductor is in series with the sensor, and a high frequency voltage with a varying frequency is applied to the resonance circuit formed by the inductor and capacitor. Resonance is sensed, and the resonant frequency and/or the resonant current are used to determine the soot content and/or the dielectric constant of the oil. The electronics temperature can be used to compensate for temperature variations in the resonant frequency and the electronics temperature and the oil temperature can be used to compensate for temperature variations in the resonant current. The compensated values are preferably used in the determination of soot content and the dielectric constant.

    摘要: An apparatus monitors at least one fuel quality characteristic of fuel passing through a fuel delivery system of a motor vehicle. The apparatus includes a fuel rail assembly connectable to the fuel delivery system of the motor vehicle. A fuel rail assembly has at least one housing associated with either a pressure regulator or an accumulator. A sensor is associated with the fuel rail assembly for measuring at least one characteristic of fuel quality of fuel passing through the fuel rail assembly. At least one characteristic includes temperature and/or impedance. The sensor can include a pair of plates spaced from one another by a gap of between approximately 0.5 mm to approximately 1.0 mm, inclusive, for measuring impedance across the gap.

    摘要: A device for determining the viscosity of a liquid has a temperature sensor and a heater disposed in spaced relation within a channel. When the device is immersed in a liquid, the heater heats the liquid and the temperature sensor detects the change in temperature of the liquid in response to heating of the liquid by the heater. A controller coupled with the temperature sensor receives a signal corresponding to the temperature of the liquid and determines an index value corresponding to the change in temperature with respect to time. The index value may be compared with a stored value to evaluate the relative change in viscosity, or it may be used to determine an actual value of viscosity of the liquid.

    摘要: An apparatus for measuring the complex impedance of a fuel includes a sensing element in contact with the fuel. The sensing element is excited with an excitation signal of a predetermined frequency, preferably in a range of 10 kHz to 100 kHz. The induced signal is used to generate a phase and a magnitude signal indicative of the phase and magnitude of the complex impedance. From the phase and magnitude signals, the resistance and capacitance of the fuel can be calculated. Correction for variations in temperature of the electronics is provided, as is variable control to adjust the resolution of the magnitude signal required by fuels of varying content, such as varying ethanol content.

    摘要: A method for compensating the output of an angular position sensor assembly includes placing a first magnetic field sensor such that it is oriented ninety degrees from a second magnetic field sensor. A magnet is placed so that it is equidistant from the sensors. The magnet is rotated, and as it rotates, the signals output by the sensors are sinusoidal waves that are out of phase with each other by ninety degrees (90°). Accordingly, the signals can be squared and summed to determined a temperature compensation signal.

    摘要: An evaporative control valve includes a plunger reciprocable between a valve stop and a valve seat to open and close a controlled port. The plunger has a body, a flexible support member mounted on one end of the body and a resilient tip positioned on the support member for sealing engagement with the valve seat. When the resilient tip of the plunger impacts the valve seat, the flexible support member absorbs substantially all of the force of impact by deflecting in the direction opposite the plunger movement, increasing impact time and reducing noise which may be generated. The resilient tip may be positioned on the flexible support member to further define a stop cushion to further reduce impact of the plunger against the valve stop.

    摘要: A steering column differential angle position sensor includes an upper target wheel and a lower target wheel. Each target wheel forms a plurality of similarly shaped slots that are equally spaced radially around the target wheels. Two receiver coils and a excitation coil are coaxially aligned with the target wheels. A hollow housing surrounds the target wheels and the coils. The excitation coil generates an alternating current magnetic field around itself, and this alternating current magnetic field generates eddy current in the target wheels. The receiver coils receive an alternating current signal that is a combination of the alternating current magnetic field generated by the excitation coil and the eddy current. The receiver coils sense changes in the alternating current signal due to differential slot alignment of the target wheels, and hence, the torque on a steering column that is mechanically coupled to the sensor.
