Abstract: Systems, apparatus and methods include control techniques for controlling operation of pre-mixed internal combustion engines in response to a load shedding event. The control techniques determine, in response to the load shedding event, a number of cycles in which to skip combustion of the fuel in the at least one cylinder based on an air-fuel ratio limit in the exhaust flow, prevent combustion of the fuel in the at least one cylinder during the number of skipped cycles, and combust the fuel in the at least one cylinder each time the number of skipped cycles are complete.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fuel injection arrangement for a diesel type engine configured to use carbonaceous aqueous slurry fuels. The fuel injection arrangement includes an injector nozzle for injecting fuel into a combustion chamber; a pump chamber housing a fuel pumping element for generating a pressurised fuel flow to the injector nozzle along an injection path between the pumping element and the injector nozzle; and a check valve connected to a fuel supply for regulating and supplying fuel to the injection path via a check valve outlet. A region immediately downstream of the check valve outlet defines an outlet region and the check valve is arranged to expose the outlet region to the pressurised fuel flow to facilitate flushing of the outlet region during fuel flow between the pumping element and the injector nozzle.

Abstract: A fuel gas blending system for internal combustion engines combines two or more gas streams to achieve a blended fuel gas having a suitable heating value (HV) for a given engine. A relatively high HV gas, for example gas produced from an oil and/or gas well, or containerized propane, is blended with a relatively low HV gas, for example nitrogen. The blended gas achieves a fuel gas with a suitable HV. Suitable means for combining the gas streams, analyzing the blended gas stream for HV and other properties, and adjusting the blend as needed are all provided. The system permits use of available gaseous fuel sources, even if not suitable in an unblended state, to efficiently fuel internal combustion engines.

Abstract: An assembly at least comprising a fuel injector for dual fuel operation of an internal combustion engine. The assembly includes a nozzle holder defining a fuel circuit and provided with a nose adapted in use to be in connection with a combustion space of an internal combustion engine, and first and second nozzles in communication with the fuel circuit in the nozzle holder for directly injecting liquid fuel into the combustion space of the internal combustion engine for ignition of a combustible mixture present in the combustion space. The first and second nozzles adjacent to the nose of the nozzle holder are interconnected by a cooling channel. At each actuation of a fuel pump upstream of the first and second nozzles, substantially a full volume of fuel pumped during actuation of the fuel pump is allowed to flow through the cooling channel and via the first and second nozzles.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for controlling intake manifold air temperature (IMAT) of a dual fuel engine are provided. A determination regarding whether IMAT is to be modified is performed, followed by modifying the IMAT by changing flow of coolant in a cooling circuit in fluid communication with a separate circuit aftercooler (SCAC) of a SCAC circuit from a first flow path to a second flow path when it is determined that the IMAT is to be modified. A portion of the first flow path overlaps a portion of the second flow path.

Abstract: A system for controlling an internal combustion engine has an in-cylinder pressure sensor, a crank angle sensor and a controller coupled to receive inputs from the pressure sensor and crank angle sensor. The controller is configured to convert the cylinder pressure input into a combustion metric indicative of the combustion occurring in the measured cylinder and control fuel input and timing into the engine based on the combustion metric. The controller samples the in-cylinder pressure sensor at a high frequency during critical combustion events and at a lower frequency during the non-critical cylinder conditions.
