    摘要: A method is taught for improving the transmission of information signals in a communications system having a base station and a remote station. First and second transmission links are established with the remote station. An information signal is encoded to provide an encoded information signal having more bits than the information signal. First and second transmission signals are provided wherein each transmission signal has bits selected from the encoded information signal. Each of the first and second transmission signals is transmitted to the remote station by way of a respective one of the first and second transmission links. The remote station receives and combines the first and second transmission signals transmitted by the remote station to provide a combined encoded signal. The combined encoded signal is decoded by the remote station to provide the information signal. The first and second transmission links can be formed between the remote station and a single base station or between the remote station and two separate base stations.

    摘要: Techniques to reduce transmit power required for transmission of messages from an access terminal to reduce interference to transmissions from other access terminals. In one aspect, messages to be transmitted are defined and/or coded such that they may be detected at different received signal qualities. The codewords may be defined having different distances to their nearest codewords. In another aspect, messages to be transmitted are assigned to different points in a signal constellation, with the points being located such that they may be received at different signal qualities. Codewords that may be received at a lower signal quality may be assigned to messages more likely to be transmitted at higher transmit power levels (e.g., when the access terminal is located further away) or to more frequently transmitted messages.

    摘要: An efficient use of communication resources is provided by determining a behavior for selecting the payload size (data rate) of a reverse link transmission from a mobile station to a base station. The mobile station may store a predetermined table including the ratio of the power levels of the traffic channel and pilot channel (TPR), where each entry corresponds to one or more specific sizes of data payload, and consequently a data rate for transmission in a predetermined time frame. The payload size is selected based on an authorized-TPR. The authorized-TPR and a target-TPR are adjusted in accordance with a value of common TPR commands received from the base station. A fast-ramp-up behavior for adjustments of the authorized-TPR is followed when the authorized-TPR is less than the target-TPR. The down TPR commands are ignored in the adjustments of the authorized-TPR to allow following a fast-ramp-up behavior.
