摘要:
Fore and heel clamp portions of a ski binding respectively designed to release the tip of the boot and the heel from the ski in response to twisting moments about vertical and horizontal axes are built into recesses in the heel and tip of the boot sole. Each clamp portion has resiliently biased sliding elements which normally clamp the boot to the ski by engaging fastening elements mounted on the ski, the bias being so set that the clamping elements will be released from the fastening elements when the force of the twisting moment exceeds the force of the bias.

A SAFETY BINDING FOR USE WITH SNOW SKIS AND BOOTS CONSISTING OF TWO SEPARABLE BUT COACTING PARTS COMPRISING A LEVER MECHANISM AND A RIGID FIXED PLATE. THE PLATE AND LEVER MECHANISM ARE EACH ADAPTED TO ENGAGE OR BE ENGAGED BY COOPERATING ELEMENTS OF THE OTHER. THE LEVER MECHANISM COMPRISES A MOVEABLE LONGITUDINALLY-EXTENDING SPRING-BIASED CONNECTING STRIP HAVING A WEDGE SHAPED END WHICH MATES FREELY WITH CONFORMING SURFACES OF A PIVOTABLE LEVER. AS THE STRIP IS MOVED, THE LEVER IS CAUSED TO PIVOT SO AS TO ENGAGE OR BE ENGAGED BY THE RIGID FIXED PLATE FOR PROVIDING A RELEASABLE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE PLATE AND THE LEVER MECHANISM WHICH RESISTS ALL DEGREES OF RELATIVE MOVEMENT BETWEEN THE SKI BOOT AND SKI WITHOUT THE NECESSITY OF A TOE RESTRAINING DEVICE. THE LEVER MECHANISM CAN BE MOUNTED IN THE SOLE OF THE BOOTH WITH THE FIXED PLATE MOUNTED ON THE SKI OR ALTERNATIVELY THE MOUNTING OF THE PARTS MAY BE REVERSED.

The invention provides a ski boot (12) which comprises an opening (18a, 18b) in each of opposing lateral, front boot portions, the openings (18a, 18b) defining an opening axis (Q) along which bearing bolts (32a, 32b) of a ski binding (14) may be introduced into the openings (18a, 18b), in order to hold the ski boot (12) on the ski binding (14) such that it can pivot about the opening axis (Q), at least one of the openings (18a, 18b) comprising at least one inner bearing portion (42) for bearing against an outer circumferential portion (50) of the bearing bolt (32a, 32b), the bearing portion (42) allowing displacement of the bearing bolt (32a, 32b) in the direction of the opening axis (Q) and a pivoting movement of the bearing bolt (32a, 32b) about the opening axis (Q), but substantially preventing displacement or a pivoting movement of the bearing bolt (32a, 32b) in other directions.

A ski boot binding securable to an alpine ski. The binding includes a heel unit having a base heel release threshold in a direction perpendicular to the upper surface of the ski to which the binding is attached. The heel unit includes a compensation mechanism that dynamically changes the base heel release threshold as a function of force conditions encountered by the ski during skiing.

A retaining element for retaining the front of a boot sole on a ski. The element includes a jaw carried by a body which itself is mounted on a mounting base. The mounting base has a front zone that supports the body, and a rear zone positioned lower than the front zone. The retaining element can accept ski boots having a thicker sole.

A ski binding front jaw has a support member and a slide member which are independently supported for movement longitudinally of the ski. The support member has a pair of two-arm sole holder levers supported for pivotal movement about vertical axes, a first arm of each sole holder being adapted to engage a ski boot and the second arm engaging the slide member. A spring engages the support member and slide member and urges them rearwardly and forwardly, respectively, the slide member in turn urging the sole holders pivotally so that the second arms thereof are urged against the ski boot. Respective stops limit forward and rearward movement of the slide member and support member, respectively. A forward force exerted on the support member moves it forwardly relative to the slide member against the force of the spring, so that the first arms of the sole holders become spaced from the slide member and the second arms of the sole holders can pivot freely outwardly.

An improvement in an attachment for release ski bindings, enabling the skier to selectively decide the mode of skiing, namely, downhill skiing or cross-country skiing. The attachment includes a sole plate which holds the ski boot onto the ski. The sole plate has a connecting piece which is pivotally secured to the front end thereof and is adapted to cooperate with a base plate for holding the toe binding. The connecting piece is pivotal between a position wherein it is adapted to be operatively connected to the base plate for the toe binding and a position overlying the front end of the sole plate. Structure is provided for maintaining the connecting piece in the overlying position on the sole plate during downhill skiing. The sole plate is a two-part construction, each part being pivotally attached to the other about a pivot axis separate from the pivot axis connecting the front end of the sole plate to the connecting piece.

An improvement for cross-country ski bindings comprising apparatus for preventing or limiting lateral motion of a cross-country ski boot with respect to the ski when the boot is lowered into close proximity with the upper surface with the ski. The apparatus may comprise two pivotal vertically upstanding members between which the ski boot fits, the upstanding members being biased apart from each other so that the boot enters freely therebetween, the weight of the skier then, applied through the sole of the boot, causing the vertical members to move closer together to grip the boot in its general central, instep, portion. Thus the boot is firmly held in a central location on the ski. When, during use of the ski, it is desired to raise the boot, the vertical members are biased outwardly to release the boot. The apparatus may also comprise a plate upon which the heel of the boot rests when the boot is in its downward position upon the upper surface of the ski, the plate being selectively positionable with respect to its longitudinal position upon the ski, so that the apparatus will accomodate ski boots of varying sizes. The apparatus, therefore provides for the use of cross-country skis with improved efficiency and facility, especially for the novice or beginning skier. Further, the ski incorporating the present invention may be used under a variety of snow and grade conditions without manual adjustment or manual attachment and detachment of the boot to the ski.
