A float-distributor for direct chill casting of metals, particularly, aluminum and aluminum base alloys. The floatdistributor comprises a float adapted to float on the surface of the molten metal in the mold. The float is adapted to fit about a feed nozzle which supplies the molten metal to the mold. Means for distributing the molten metal about the periphery of the mold is provided and is supported beneath the float. The distributing means generally comprises a cone shaped distributor which is supported in axial alignment with the feed nozzle. The apex angle of the distributor is generally kept between about 60* and 150*. The float may include means for increasing its buoyancy as the flow rate of molten metal issuing from the feed nozzle increases. The float may also contain means for preventing capillary flow of molten metal between the float and the feed nozzle.

A continuous casting process of a steel semi-product is provided. The process includes a step of casting using a hollow jet nozzle located between a tundish and a continuous casting mould. The nozzle includes, in its upper part, a dome for deflecting the liquid metal arriving at the inlet of the nozzle towards the internal wall of the nozzle, defining an internal volume with no liquid metal. A simultaneous step of injecting powder through a hole of the dome occurs. The powder has a particle size of 200 μm or less. The dome includes a first device to inject the powder without any contact with the dome and a second device to avoid sticking or sintering of the powder onto the first device.

A double-acting switch valve includes a mounting bracket and two mutually backup sealing assemblies disposed on the mounting bracket, each of the two sealing assemblies including a carbon rod and a carbon rod moving assembly, the carbon rod moving assembly being configured to translate, and elevate or lower the carbon rod so as to block or open a metal liquid channel between two metal liquid furnaces. Two sealing assemblies which are mutually replaceable, where when the carbon rod on one of the sealing assemblies is worn down, the other sealing assembly may take its place to block the metal liquid outlet again via the carbon rod; and then the worn-down carbon rod is renewed. This design eliminates the time taken for replacing the carbon rod and can reduce the amount of the metal liquid discharged via the metal liquid outlet during replacement of the carbon rod.
