    Abstract: A pneumatic off-the-road (OTR) tire has a plurality of central and shoulder lugs. The central lugs are arranged in a circumferentially continuous row and extend across the equatorial plane (EP). Each central lug is similar in shape and orientation relative to each circumferentially adjacent central lug. The tire is conformed having a tread package that effects a low net-to-gross ratio of less than 40% as measured around the circumference of the tire. The low net to gross tread pattern is incorporated into a relatively low aspect ratio OTR tire for construction and industrial applications.

    Abstract: A tire tread has a total of four circumferential ribs and three circumferential grooves. The four ribs include two intermediate ribs and two outer ribs, and the three grooves include a center groove and two outer grooves. The two intermediate ribs are between the center groove and the two outer grooves, and the outer ribs are on the opposite sides of the outer grooves from the intermediate ribs. Rib cross slots and cross sipes extend outwardly from the outer grooves into the intermediate and outer ribs in herringbone patterns. The cross slots and cross sipes extend less than the full width of the ribs to provide the intermediate ribs with circumferential inner portions adjacent the center groove that are devoid of cross slots. These circumferential inner portions of the intermediate ribs have a plurality of circumferentially-spaced cross sipes that do not intersect the center groove. The rib cross slots are circumferentially-spaced a plurality of different distances to define a plurality of rib blocks having different lengths. Shorter rib blocks have a single cross sipe and longer rib blocks have double cross sipes. Shoulder cross slots intermediate the cross slots in the outer ribs overlap the outer rib cross slots by 25-35% of the outer rib cross slot length. The rib and shoulder cross slots have sloping closed end surfaces that intersect the outer surface of the tread at an angle of 35-42.degree.. Shoulder and outer rib cross sipes that are positioned opposite from the rib and shoulder cross slots do not intersect or overlap the rib or shoulder cross slots.

    Abstract: A tread design for a pneumatic tire of radial construction for high-speed vehicles is provided. The tire has a height-to-width ratio of .ltoreq.0.6 with a tread design that is tied to the direction of rotation. The tread design comprises profiled elements that are steeply oriented in the circumferential direction at an angle to the equatorial plane of the tire and are arranged in the shape of V's. The profiled elements extend from a central portion of the tread into shoulder regions of the tire, with the profiled elements being angled-off at a bend region in the shoulder regions in the direction of an axis of the tire. Respective continuous inclined grooves that proceed from the central portion to the shoulder regions are formed between the profiled elements. A circumferentially extending rib is disposed in the equatorial plane and forms two central, circumferentially extending grooves, one on each side of the rib, between this rib and starting portions of the profiled elements. The inclined grooves communicate with these circumferential grooves. In the central portion of the tread, the profiled elements extend at an angle of from 5.degree. to 30.degree. relative to the equatorial plane, while in the shoulder regions, proceeding from the bend regions, the profiled elements extend at an angle of from 65.degree. to 85.degree..
