摘要: Heat storage apparatus comprising at least one thermal store (300) comprising a chamber (301) having a gas inlet (306), a gas outlet (307), and a gas-permeable thermal storage media (303) disposed therebetween, the apparatus being configured such that, during operation, the flow path of a gas flowing through the chamber (301) from inlet (306) to outlet (307) for transfer of thermal energy to or from the storage media (303) can be selectively altered in response to the progress of the thermal transfer, thereby enabling the flow path to bypass inactive upstream or downstream regions of the storage media where thermal transfer is complete or minimal, so as to minimise the pressure drop across the storage media. A baffle system (305) in a main flow passageway (312) may be used to control the gas flow path.

摘要: A heat transfer sheet [60,160,260,360] for a rotary regenerative heat exchanger is shaped to include sheet spacing features [59], which provide spacing between adjacent heat transfer sheets [60,160,260,360], and undulation surfaces [68,70] (corrugations) in the sections between the sheet spacing features [59]. The undulation sections [68,70] are constructed of regularly spaced lobes [64,72] extending at an angle with respect to the spacing features [59]. The undulating sections [68,70] impart turbulence in the air or flue gas flowing between the heat transfer sheets [60, 160, 260, 360] to improve heat transfer. The heat transfer sheets [60,160,260,360] may include undulating surfaces that differ in angle of their lobes [64,72].

摘要: A method for evaporating liquid, in which a drum 1 in which there are passages 8 which extend across the thickness of the drum wall 3 is rotated in a trough 5 containing evaporation liquid 6, while a gas is fed from the drum 1 to the passages 8 is provided. As a result of the gas being passed through, the liquid which has been absorbed by the drum 1 evaporates, with the result that heat is extracted from the system of drum 1 and gas passed through. Depending on conditions, the method can be used to cool, for example flows of processed water or to cool air or to desalinate water. A device for carrying out the method and a drum which can be used in the device are also provided.

摘要: A chemisorption thermal system provides a cooling output by revolving an array of thermal elements through heat sink and heat source temperature zones defined within a cylindrical housing. Each thermal element is an enclosed elongated body having an absorbent material at one end and a reactant containing part at the other end. Reactant is desorbed from the absorbent material in one part of the thermal cycle, and then evaporated from the reactant containing part to provide a cooling output in another part of the cycle. It is particularly suitable as a vehicle air conditioner using the engine waste heat as a heat source and the vehicle radiator as a heat sink. The invention also makes use of dry chemical absorbent materials which have high heats of reaction allowing the system to have a high heat capacity and low volume. The thermal cycle may be reversed to provide a heating output.

摘要: Disclosed is a mounting device for a ceramic heat recovery wheel having a central bore therein. A metal hub is situated in the bore having a plurality of radially movable shoes for fastening the hub to the wheel. The radially movable shoes each have a radially directed stem with a contact portion abutting the ceramic wheel. The contact portion has a substantially greater cross-sectional area than the stem and in the preferred embodiment is a double cantilevered beam extending from the stem. The cantilevered beams are permitted to bow or flex when subjected to extreme temperatures, thereby permitting radial displacement of the shoe without subjection of the ceramic disk to extreme tensile forces which might cause its breakage.
