摘要： A reflective sensor detects the presence of a subject at a detecting position. The sensor has a sensor portion and a filter. The sensor portion includes a light-emitting element that emits light at the detecting position and a light-receiving element that receives light reflected from the subject, and generates an electrical signal corresponding to a quantity of received light. The filter is between the sensor portion and the detecting position, is made of a material that transmits light heading to the detecting position from the light-emitting element and light heading to the light-receiving element from the subject, and prevents intrusion of dust. A filter surface facing the sensor portion is tapered and has an inclined plane opposing the light-emitting element, another inclined plane opposing the light-receiving element, and a ridge portion where the inclined planes meet. The ridge portion extends between the light-emitting element and the light-receiving element.

摘要： A print media processing apparatus having scanner feed rollers for holding and transporting print media against an image scanner appropriately controls the scanner feed roller position. The scanner feed rollers are opposite the image scanner, which is disposed along a vertical segment of a transportation path along which a check or form is transported. A roller retraction mechanism moves the scanner feed rollers between a closed position in which the rollers press against the scanning surface, and an open position in which the rollers are retracted therefrom. The scanner feed rollers retract to the open position a specific time after scanning ends. By delaying retraction of the rollers in this manner, the present invention solves the problem of a check or other print media, after having been processed and transported to the exit side of the rollers, from slipping down between the rollers and the image scanner into the vertical transportation path because the rollers opened as soon as scanning ends.

摘要： There are provided an original table for an original, a linear image sensor for converting light into an electric signal, a first optical system for forming an optical image on a main scanning line onto the linear image sensor, a sub scanning unit for scanning the main scanning line in parallel with a sub scanning direction, and a second optical system forming an optical path that reaches the linear image sensor from a detecting position on the plate surface, which is remote from the main scanning line in a sub scanning direction. A size and an orientation of an original are decided based on an electric signal converted from light that reaches the linear image sensor from the main scanning line via the first optical system, and an electric signal converted from light that reaches the linear image sensor from the detecting position via the second optical system.

摘要： In a picture reading device having a light emitting element that obliquely irradiates the surface of a paper with light, an area sensor that reads its irradiated area as a picture in which information related to a paper is read on the basis of the read results, the light irradiating element is arranged with an angle so as to irradiate the light from a direction oblique to a conveying direction of the paper. As a result, the picture reading device of the present invention eliminates such a problem that the same paper surface is received as a different image depending on the incident direction of the light, and the information related to an object to be read cannot be accurately read.

摘要： The automatic image-property identification is applied for a two-dimensional object on the document table of a scanner. Various informative frames are used for circumscribing the borders of the document sheets. Each frame type is associated with the image properties of a sheet size. The frame types and their associated image properties are stored in a template. When scanning, the program first detects the features of the frame type currently in use. After a frame type is found, the photoelectric converting device can directly read the image properties of the sheet from the template without a prescan.
