    摘要: A sensitized laser glass which includes a primary lasing dopant and auxiliary dopants which absorb in regions of the flashlamp emission spectrum away from the absorption bans of the primary dopant and transfer the energy absorbed to the primary dopant, thus improving the efficiency and sensitivity of the laser glass. The auxiliary dopant comprises the combination of cerium and chromium as Ce.sub.2 O.sub.3 and Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 and the primary dopant is a rare earth metal, preferably neodymium or erbium as Nd.sub.2 O.sub.3 or Er.sub.2 O.sub.3. Th auxiliary dopant consists essentially of 0.1 to 5% by weight Ce.sub.2 O.sub.3 and 0.025 to 0.1% by weight Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, however the preferred concentration of the auxiliary dopant is 2 to 4% by weight Ce.sub.2 O.sub.3 plus 0.03 to 0.07% by weight Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3. The experimental data establishes that such auxiliary dopants are particularly suitable for phosphate laser glasses.

    摘要: A corrosion inhibiting material comprises a water soluble glass of the calcium oxide/phosphorus pentoxide type which, when in contact with water, releases phosphate ions which inhibit corrosion of adjacent metal surfaces. The glass solubility may be controlled by the incorporation of one or more glass modifying oxides. Advantageously the glass is finely ground and then dispersed in a resin carrier to form a primer paint formulation.The preferred glass forming region of a typical calcium oxide/phosphorus pentoxide system is illustrated in the ternary phase/composition diagram of FIG. 1 of the accompanying drawings.

    摘要: A water soluble glass article suitable for treating a diet deficiency in a ruminant animal. Animals are treated by lodging in the reticulo rumen an article containing(a) P.sub.2 O.sub.5(b) R.sub.2 O where R is chosen from Na, K and Li(c) at least one other glass forming or modifying material, usually CaO, MgO or Al.sub.2 O.sub.3(d) at least one deficiency-rectifying element selected from Cu, Se, Co, Zn, I, Mn and Mg.In the composition the sum of P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and R.sub.2 O is not less than 56 mol %, and not more than 76 mol % if CuO and/or ZnO are present or not more than 92 mol % if CuO and/or ZnO are absent and one or more of CoO, SeO and I is present. If CuO and/or ZnO is present then the amount of each of P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and R.sub.2 O (preferably present in substantially equimolar amounts) does not exceed 45 mol %.The composition is such that when the article is present in the reticulo rumen the article has a release rate of not more than 25 mg per square centimeter of article surface area per day, so making possible articles which can be administered to the animal to release the required element or elements over periods up to one year or more.

    摘要: A lead-free green ceramic body useful after firing as an electrical resistor, and a method for producing such a resistor, are disclosed. The method preferably comprises the steps of preparing a uniform, finely-divided mixture by blending, by weight, substantially 69 percent of a glass frit with substantially 8 percent of AlPO.sub.4, substantially 3 percent of conductive carbon and substantially 20 percent of a phenyl lower alkyl silicone resin which is curable to form a temporary binder for the conductive carbon and the glass frit. One preferred frit consists essentially of substantially 43 percent SiO.sub.2, 20 percent B.sub.2 O.sub.3, 21 percent Na.sub.2 O, 3 percent CaO, 8 percent BaO and 5 percent Li.sub.2 O. A shape is then pressed from the mixture; the shape is heated to 450-550 degrees F. for about 30 minutes and cooled to ambient temperature. Silver paint is then applied to the cooled shape and the painted shape is fired to vitrify the frit of the resistor. A lead-free carbon resistor according to the invention eliminates health hazards of human exposure to toxic lead compounds used in many resistors. A preferred resistor according to the invention also maintains an essentially constant resistance over time.

    摘要: A copper phosphate water soluble glass composition. The composition of the glass may be adjusted so as to release copper at a uniform preselected rate and to produce a desired pH in the resultant solution. In one application of the glass copper may be supplied to an animal from an implant formed from a cupric oxide/phosphorus pentoxide glass which also incorporates one or more glass modifying oxides such as alkali metal oxides and alumina, to control the glass solubility. Suitable glasses comprise 5-55 mole % cupric oxide + alkali metal oxides. 45-75 mole % phosphorus pentoxide, and not more than 15 mole % alumina, where the copper oxide concentration is not less than 5 mole %.

    摘要: A glass composition is disclosed that is useful as a solder glass for sealing components together. However, the glass is also especially adapted for use as an electric resistance film for coating the inner neck or funnel portions of a cathode ray tube to reduce arcing. The glass composition includes primarily the oxides of vanadium and phosphorous with the preferred addition of either zinc oxide or lead oxide. Still other metal oxides may be optionally included such as oxides of barium, antimony, lithium, manganese, silicon, boron, molybdenum and mixtures thereof.
