摘要： A flexible trowel has a compliant coupling between the handle and the blade. In the preferred embodiment, the handle is pivotally mounted to the elongated shaft extending from the planar blade for rotation in a plane generally perpendicular to the blade. The pivot pin extends transversely through a longitudinal recess in the handle. The handle is biased upward by a helical compression spring seated in a transverse passage in the handle and adjustably preloaded by a follower nut threaded on a bolt axially restrained in the end of the transverse passage by a retainer cap.

摘要： A trowel and related method of manufacture in which residual stresses are intentionally imposed upon the bottom working surface and/or the top mounting surface of a trowel blade. Stresses can be imposed, for example, by glass bead peening, shot peening, rolling, and/or brushing the metal trowel blade. Stresses are built up to a working stess level that remains substantially constant with further use of the trowel against abrasive, spreadable surfaces. Imposed stresses on the top and bottom surfaces can also be used to vary the resulting curvature of the blade.

摘要： A universal float handle device having a central arched gripping portion and a single foot formed at each end, each foot has formed in it one or more apertures which allows for the handle to be readily attached to a hand trowel float. The base of each foot is flat, and may have a marginal rim provided around its periphery, each foot having an aperture provided therethrough, with counterbores formed into both the bottom end and the upper end of each aperture, to provide clearance for accommodating the locating of a fastener therethrough, and for attaching the handle to a hand float. The aperture through one foot may be elongated, to provide a form of slot for accommodating adjustment in the locating of the fastener at that end, while the aperture provided at the opposite foot may comprise one or more apertures, to provide adjustment in the locating of the fastener when attaching that end of the handle to the hand float device. A plug inserts within the counterbore formed at the upper end of each aperture, and is contoured to mate flush with the upper surface of the handle, for the convenience of the user, and to enhance the appearance of the universal handle once installed and utilized.

摘要： An elongated dovetail tongue on the top surface of the trowel blade slips endwise into a closely conforming groove formed in the base of the removable handle until its end abuts a shoulder at the end of the groove. The tongue is longer than the groove, and a keeper is adapted to slip onto and abut the end of the tongue protruding from the groove. A boss on the end of a resilient arm extending from the keeper engages a detent in the base, locking the keeper to the handle, immobilizing the tongue, and thereby securing the handle to the blade. Disengaging the detent mechanism releases the keeper and allows it to be removed and the handle readily separated from the blade. In the preferred embodiment, the tongue comprises a pair of upwardly divergent flanges attached to the top surface of the blade, and the groove is defined by the downwardly convergent walls of a channel formed in the underside of the base,

摘要： A trowel comprises a flat, elongated rectangular blade having lateral edges and end edges. A pair of handles are pivotally mounted on the rectangular blade along the longitudinal centerline of the blade and adjacent each end of the blade. Each handle can pivot through at least 180.degree. from a first position extending substantially perpendicular to the material handling surface of the blade to a second generally opposite position extending substantially perpendicular to the material handling surface of the blade. This enables the laborer, holding the handles in the first position extending upward from the material handling surface of the trowel blade, to scoop up mud, stucco, plaster, mortar or other surfacing material from a pile with the trowel and then, by pivoting the handles from the first position to their opposite position, to apply the surfacing material directly to the wall being surfaced.

摘要： An apparatus for facilitating the installation of a flowable insulation in a wall or ceiling cavity comprises a rigid rectangular frame. A pair of transverse runners releasably receives an apertured slide panel and a pair of slide screen panels. When all three panels are received by the runners, they extend between the sides of the frame. A metal screen or wire mesh covers the frame other than at the runners. The apertured panel may be repositioned by removing one of the panels and sliding the other two to a different position then reinserting the removed panel. The frame may be pressed against a wall cavity and the apertured panel positioned so that it is not obstructed. An insulation hose may then inserted through the aperture in the apertured panel and insulation blown into the cavity; subsequently the apparatus may be removed. In another embodiment a pair of adjustable legs extend from the bottom of the frame and a row of teeth extends along the top of the frame so that the frame may be pressed against the top of the wall cavity. In a further embodiment the adjustable legs may be pivotally joined medially along the sides of the frame and used to support the frame against ceiling joints so that insulation may be blown into the ceiling cavity between these joints.
