Abstract:
A surface texture measuring instrument has a rotary table on which a workpiece is rotatably mounted, a Z-axis slider capable of moving in a Z-axis direction parallel to a rotation axis of the rotary table, an X-axis slider that is held by the Z-axis slider and is advanceable and retractable in an X-axis direction orthogonal to the rotation axis, a first arm that is held by the X-axis slider and is rotatable around a center line parallel to the X-axis, a second arm that is held by the first arm and is advanceable and retractable in a direction orthogonal to the X-axis, and a detector held by the second arm to measure a surface texture of the workpiece.
Abstract:
A method for expressing disparate profilometer (20) measurements in a common coordinate system, comprises the steps of providing a work-piece holder (10) with at least two reference features (14) having surfaces and centers; fixing a work-piece (16) in the work-piece holder (10); scanning (S1) the surfaces of the reference features (14); and determining the centers of the reference features (14) in at least an x1, y1 coordinate system. The next steps are scanning (S2) a surface of the first work-piece (16) and obtaining a measurement result; and transforming (S3) the measurement result into an xg, yg global coordinate system. The next step is repeating the above steps for successive work-piece surfaces, or successive work-pieces or the same work-piece at different times. The final steps are combining (S4) the measurement results in xg, yg global coordinate system and computing desired output.
Abstract:
A portable coordinate measurement machine comprises an articulated arm having jointed arm segments. The arm includes modular bearing/encoder cartridges which are attached to each other at predetermined angles using dual socket joints. Each cartridge contains at least one, and preferably two preloaded bearing assemblies and an encoder, preferably optical encoder, all assembled in a cylindrical housing.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a connection device associated with an arm of an articulated three-dimensional measuring appliance, the device comprising a moving assembly and a fixed assembly, together with connection means for providing an electrical link between said two assemblies. In accordance with the invention, the moving assembly comprises first and second adjacent components on a common axis, the first component being constrained to rotate with the jointed end of the arm and being connected to the second component by a coupling system having successive dogs so that said second component is entrained in rotation only after said first component has turned through significantly more than one revolution in the same direction, and the connection means comprise facing contact members carried respectively by the fixed assembly and by the second component, arranged to provide a continuous electrical link in normal operation and a link that is restricted to a short angular range of rotation once the second component is entrained in rotation by the first component.
Abstract:
A storage port (20) for separating a magnetically coupled task module (18) from a modular probe (16) mounted on a machine comprises a housing (22) and arm (24) receivable by the task module (18). A mechanism is provided for separating the task module from the probe body using a mechanical advantage, such that physical movement of the machine actuates the mechanism thereby separating the task module (18) from the modular probe (16). The arm (24) may be rotatable about a pivot (26) such that on moving the probe upwards, the task module (18) is also pulled upwards, causing the arm (24) and hence the task module (18) to rotate about the pivot (26) and thus breaking contact between the task module (18) and the probe (16) with a tilting action. Damping means (38, 48, 60, 62) are provided to ensure smooth and controlled movement of the arm (24).
Abstract:
A portable coordinate measurement machine comprises an articulated arm having a plurality of jointed arm segments. The arm segments include replaceable protective coverings and/or bumpers to limit high impact shock and abrasion as well as to provide an ergonomically and/or aesthetically pleasing gripping location.
Abstract:
A method for providing feedback to the operator of a portable coordinate measurement machine which comprises an articulated arm having jointed arm segments is presented. The method includes sensing deformation of a portion of the articulated arm when the arm is placed under a load, the deformation being an indication of the magnitude of the external force being applied to the arm, and providing feedback to the operator of the CMM in response to the sensed external forces.
Abstract:
A monitor device for marking a reference location on a computer screen. The reference location can be, for example, a data point on the screen that a user needs to note. This would be advantageous, for example, when the user is checking a spreadsheet of data. Often when the user refers back and forth between a computer screen and a hard copy, the user loses track of the user's place on the screen. The monitor guide can be used to keep track of where the user is on the screen. The monitor guide features two rods that move with respect to the screen and intersect at a point used to mark the reference point.
Abstract:
A non-contact surface roughness-measuring machine is provided which can avoid damage caused by collision with a workpiece and set a non-contact surface roughness probe at an appropriate position relative to a measurement surface of the workpiece. A non-contact surface roughness probe and a touch-signal probe are attached at a tip end of an arm of a coordinate measuring machine. A stylus of the touch-signal probe is protruded relative to a detection surface of the non-contact surface roughness probe, in which the protrusion amount is within an optimum distance of the non-contact surface roughness probe relative to the measurement surface. When the probes are brought close to the workpiece and the touch-signal probe detects contact, the non-contact surface roughness probe is set within the optimum distance relative to the workpiece.
Abstract:
An apparatus for detecting the position of a holder for a tool or a workpiece has a frame and drive units connected to the frame. Rods connect the drive units to the holder. At least one load-free measuring arm is freely extendable between two measuring points. Elements for detecting a position of the at least one measuring arm within a reference space are provided.
