A phase splitter for separating a multiphase fluid into a relatively light phase and a relatively heavy phase includes a separator tube which comprises a fluid inlet through which the multiphase fluid enters the apparatus, a heavy phase outlet through which the heavy phase exits the apparatus and an inner diameter surface which defines a flow bore that extends between the fluid inlet and the heavy phase outlet. A swirl element positioned in the flow bore downstream of the fluid inlet causes the multiphase fluid to rotate and separate the heavy phase from the light phase. The light phase forms an elongated core which extends axially through the flow bore radially inwardly of the heavy phase from proximate the swirl element toward the heavy phase outlet. A core stabilizer is positioned in the flow bore between the swirl element and the heavy phase outlet and engages the distal end of the light phase core to thereby inhibit the light phase from exiting the apparatus through the heavy phase outlet.

A particulate separator for a gaseous fluid is provided. The particulate separator includes a sealable collection container defining a collection volume therein. The particulate separator also includes a gaseous fluid conduit provided through the sealable collection container. The gaseous fluid conduit defines an inner channel therein. The gaseous fluid conduit includes an inlet and an outlet. The gaseous fluid conduit also includes an arcuate segment provided between the inlet and the outlet. The arcuate segment includes a plurality of slits formed therein. The plurality of slits is configured to provide fluid communication between the collection volume and the inner channel of the gaseous fluid conduit.

A system for air purification using cyclone separators mounted with wall structures is disclosed. Air entering a building is filtered by passage through a coupled array of cyclone separators mounted within concrete blocks. Each cyclone separator is composed of two components, a cyclone chamber and a coupler. The coupler contains the air inlet, air outlet, as well as baffles to induce cyclonic flow within the chambers. The cyclone chambers can be fashioned as cavities within solid concrete blocks or added as separate components to the couplers. Both the couplers and chambers can be employed within hollow construction blocks, and the couplers can be further incorporated within gaskets that fit between rows of construction blocks.

Cyclones for gas-solid separators are provided, which are especially applicable for use in a downflowing third stage separator (TSS) for the removal of dust particles, such as solid catalyst fines, from the flue gas streams exiting the catalyst regenerator in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) processes. A cyclone has a barrel having an interior, and a central hub disposed within the interior of the barrel. A plurality of concentric annular sections are disposed radially between the barrel and the central hub. Swirl vanes extend radially into at least one of the annular sections to define a swirl chamber within said at least one of the plurality of annular sections. At least one solid particle outlet is disposed at a lower end of the barrel. A gas outlet is in fluid communication with the interior of the barrel.

A centrifugal spark arrestor having a main body portion with a first end and a second end spaced from one another. The main body has an interior wall defining a flow path for the flow of air through the main body and a longitudinal axis. An inlet is positioned at the first end and extends generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The inlet is in operative communication with the flow path. An outlet is positioned at the second end; the outlet is in operative communication with the flow path. At least one baffle is positioned within the main body portion between the first and second ends, partially extending into the flow path. Air is pulled into the inlet and forced initially in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and against the interior wall. The air is forced through the main body portion to the outlet in a centrifugal flow path. The baffle is engaged by the air flowing through the main body portion with any particles entrained within the air impinging upon the baffle.

Systems and methods to improve the separation of drill cuttings from drilling fluids using cyclone devices are described. Specifically, a system for separating three phases of a gas/liquid/solid mixture is described. The system includes a cyclone for separating the gas/liquid/solid mixture into a solids component and a gas/liquid mixture; a gas/liquid separator for separating the gas/liquid mixture into a gas component and a liquid component; and a vacuum system for providing a motive force for moving the gas/liquid/solid mixture into the cyclone, moving the separated gas/liquid mixture into the gas/liquid separator and for removing the gas component from the gas/liquid separator.
