摘要: Interoperable aerial refueling apparatus and methods. In one embodiment, a receptacle configured to fluidly receive a terminal portion of a refueling boom is coupled to a refueling drogue. A retainer is coupled to an aircraft that removably retains the receptacle when the aircraft is refueling another aircraft configured to directly engage the boom. The receptacle releases the receptacle when the terminal portion of the boom engages the receptacle so that an aircraft that receives the refueling drogue may be refueled. In another embodiment, a method includes providing fuel to a first receiving aircraft that receives fuel by directly coupling to an end of a refueling boom. The method further includes, while the tanker aircraft is in flight, configuring the boom to supply fuel to a second receiving aircraft having a refueling probe operable to receive fuel from a drogue.

摘要: Systems and methods for distributing loads from fluid conduits, including aircraft fuel conduits, are disclosed. An aircraft configured in accordance with one embodiment of the invention includes a fuselage portion, a wing portion, and a fuel tank carried by least one of the fuselage portion and the wing portion. The aircraft also includes a spar carried by at least one of the fuselage portion and the wing portion. The spar includes a first spar rib and a second spar rib spaced apart from the first spar rib. The aircraft further includes a fluid conduit proximate to the spar and operably coupled to the fuel tank. A support member carrying the fluid conduit is operably coupled to the spar. The support member can be positioned to transfer at least approximately all of the axial loads from the fluid conduit to at least one of the first spar rib and the second spar rib.

摘要: The present invention relates to a deflection device, for example, for a blunt stream body. The deflection device has an edge, which, for example, can be mounted to the stream body. In an advantageous manner, the deflection device allows an influencing of the slipstream in such a way that turbulences, which are connected with the slipstream and form downstream of blunt stream bodies, have as little influence as possible on the dragged object in order to avoid the formation of building-up motions of the dragged object, which lead to instabilities.

摘要: An in-flight refueling system, bladder device and method are provided for enhancing the stability of an elongate hose extending from a tanker aircraft during an in-flight refueling operation. The various embodiments of the present invention provide a compact, lightweight, and low-profile bladder device that may fill with fuel from a fuel conduit defined in the elongate hose so as to minimize the occurrence of oscillations within the elongate hose by selectively adding additional weight to a portion of the elongate hose. Thus, embodiments of the present invention may minimize the occurrence of oscillations in the elongate hose by stabilizing the elongate hose as it extends from the tanker aircraft during an in-flight refueling operation.

摘要: An in-flight refueling system, damping device and method are provided for enhancing the stability of an elongate hose extending from a tanker aircraft during an in-flight refueling operation. The various embodiments of the system, device, and method provide a passive, integrated damping device that may generate electrical energy from changes in disposition of the elongate hose and then using the electrical energy generated to impart mechanical damping forces to a portion of the elongate hose. Thus, the embodiments may minimize the occurrence of oscillations in the elongate hose as it extends from the tanker aircraft during an in-flight refueling operation.

摘要: An in-flight refueling system and method are provided for facilitating the emergency separation of the components of a probe and drogue in-flight refueling. The in-flight refueling system and method provides a fuse device capable of being installed between, for instance, an elongate hose configured to trail from a tanker aircraft, and a drogue connected to, and in fluid communication with, the elongate hose. The fuse device may be configured to separate in response to a separating force such that the drogue may separate from the elongate hose prior to the exertion of a damaging force, a non-certified force, or an unknown aerodynamic force on the elongate hose, on a probe carried by a second receiver aircraft, or on the tanker aircraft.
