摘要： A mock-linking process and apparatus are disclosed for linking a specially knitted edging trim in the form of a ribbon of knitted yarn with an unfinished edge of a knitted garment, such as a V-neck opening, to obtain a finish which substantially simulates a point-to-point link finish. The trim is weft-knitted on a double bed knitting machine to incorporate a course of transfer stitches followed by a slack tension course which defines a fold line to facilitate tucking-in of the ravel edge, and an adjacent seam line along the folded edge, wherein the seam line is well-defined by a line of outwardly-protruding loops with spaces therebetween. During the mock-linking process a conventional chain-stitch sewing machine is used, provided with folding means and guide means to bring the seam line of the trim, which has been folded over the unfinished garment edge, into alignment with the needle path, wherein the two pieces of knitted fabric are joined along the seam line with matching thread.

摘要： An apparatus and method are disclosed for feeding cards, and the like, to a sewing surface. Cards are advanced to the sewing surface by a reciprocating delivery mechanism and, as a card moves toward the sewing surface, a folding block moves into the path of the card and folds it. Located adjacent the sewing surface is a gripper that receives the folded card from the delivery mechanism and holds it above the sewing surface. Once the gripper receives the card, the delivery mechanism retracts away from the sewing surface and returns to pick up another card. Activating a sewing operation at the sewing surface causes the gripper to release the card and retract away from the sewing surface. Removal of the card from the sewing surface activates the delivery mechanism which delivers the next card to the sewing surface.

摘要： A braking device for strip material particularly for a sewing machine which sews a garment requiring ruffling comprises a fixed guide over which the strip material such as tape is fed. A resilient member overlies the fixed guide and it is engaged by a multi-step cam plate mounted for rotation about an axis so that a plurality of flat sides thereof may be selectively engaged against the resilient member to force it against the material passing on the guide so as to apply a selected braking force thereto. The resilient member advantageously comprises a leaf spring and the multi-step cam plate includes a plurality of engagements surfaces arranged at different distances from the central axis of its rotation which may be positioned by a hand knob control to bear against the resilient member and effect the varying braking of the tape being fed. The sewing machine advantageously is provided with a table having a slot through which the tape is fed onto the material being sewn and the sewing machine feeding device advances the tape off its reel supply and the braking of the tape to slow its feed is used for example, to effect the sewing of ruffles or similar arrangements on the material being fed as it is joined to the tape.

摘要： In a method for automatically attaching successive fly strips to a continuous slide fastener chain, the successive strips are fed to a standby point one after another by a conveyor horizontally spaced from a sewing machine by a gap in which the standby point is disposed. A preceding strip is supplied from the standby point to the sewing machine with its trailing end portion hanging in the gap, while a succeeding strip is kept waiting at the standby point for a subsequent supply. When the trailing end of the preceding strip has passed a fixed point downstream of the standby point in the gap as the sewing of the preceding strip progresses, the succeeding strip is supplied at a speed higher than the rate at which the sewing of the preceding strip progresses.

摘要： A sewing device for sewing an elastic band to cloth. The sewing device includes a pair of spaced fingers slidably connected one with the other, a spring-loaded pin fixed to one finger's slide bar that cooperates with one of a series of holes in the finger's slide bar to hold the fingers in desired spaced relation, and a removable spring clip that cooperates with each of the fingers to hold an elastic band in connected relation with those fingers when desired. In use, and with the fingers spaced a minimum distance one from the other, the elastic band is laid over the fingers and connected thereto by the spring clips. The spring-loaded pin on one slide bar is then depressed to move it out of a hole in the other slide bar, the slide bars thereafter being moved relative one to the other until the fingers are spaced that distance which provides the desired stretch in the elastic band. The spring-loaded pin is then received in another of the spaced holes of the other slide bar to maintain that desired stretch in elastic band. The stretched elastic band is then sewn, while in its stretch condition, to the cloth.

摘要： A strip of material is advanced a first selected distance along a feed path past a cutter. Then, the free end of the strip of material is gripped by a gripper and pulled a second selected distance so that the strip of material is disposed across a path of a reciprocating frame. The frame is advanced so that a retainer holds the portion of the strip of material to be cut at the time that it is cut by the cutter. The ends of the cut segment, which is held by the retainer, are folded by two pairs of folding pins supported by the frame to form a folded loop. The folded loop is advanced to a sewing machine, when a sewing machine operator activates a switch, to position the folded loop on a sewing plate with the frame being retracted after the folded loop is clamped to the sewing plate and prior to sewing. The movements of the frame and the gripper are controlled from a single driven cam shaft having three cams thereon with one having a plurality of cam profiles. If the strip of material exceeds a predetermined thickness, the frame is prevented from being advanced to the position in which the retainer holds the portion of the strip of material to be cut prior to cutting so that the cut segment is not used as a folded loop.
