Abstract:
A de-energized tap changer for transformers comprises a frame of insulating material, a slide which carries movable contacts, the slide being displaceable in the frame, and a drive for the slide. The frame of the tap changer is manufactured in one piece and consists of a terminal bar with attachment means for connections from the transformer windings, a carrier member carrying the drive, and cross-bars connecting the terminal bar and the carrier member. The movable slide is displaceable in grooves in the cross-bars and can be inserted in the grooves only when situated outside its ordinary working area.
Abstract:
A surge diverter is mounted in an inner casing of electrically insulating material which is enclosed in an outer housing of electrically conducting material which is connected to earth. In the space between the inner casing and the housing a number of grading rings in the form of toroid rings are fastened to the inner casing at a distance from it. The grading rings are arranged at a distance from each other which increases counting from the top of the diverter.
Abstract:
A channel type induction furnace with a furnace body having a hearth and an inductor arranged below the hearth has melt channels opening into the hearth below the normal surface of the bath. The melt channels are vertically directed. At least two disc cores of substantially greater height than thickness are provided with their windings located substantially parallel to the plane of the channel and positioned on both sides of all the channels except the outermost one.
Abstract:
For determining the highest oil temperature in a transformer, a temperature-sensitive transducer in the form of a hollow closed body is arranged adjacent the point in the upper part of the winding where the oil temperature is assumed to be highest and is connected by a conducting tube to a measuring device located outside the transformer. The transducer and the connecting tube are filled with a liquid having a higher coefficient of expansion than the material of the transducer and a boiling point which is higher than the highest permissible oil temperature. The tube has a volume which is small in relation to the volume of the transducer.
Abstract:
A rod or wire having an aluminum or aluminum alloy core and a copper or copper alloy casing is produced by hydrostatic extrusion of a compound billet through a die having a conical inlet with a cone angle of between 93* and 115*.
Abstract:
Stock feed to a paper machine headbox is controlled by a stock (fan) pump which is controlled to run at variable speeds, the input of stock to the pump originating from a thick stock containing conduit and a conduit containing mixing water. The speed of the pump motor is controlled by a signal from a control element which is responsive to measurements of the stock level or pressure within the headbox and an adjusted value of the forming wire speed. In addition, a thick stock pump located in the thick stock conduit is adjusted to run at a variable speed by a control device which is responsive to signals indicating the pressure drop across an orifice in the thick stock conduit and a signal based on the web speed. Alternatively, the thick stock pump may run at a constant speed and the control device can be used to control an orifice opening or throttling device located in the thick stock conduit between the pressure-drop determining orifice and the stock (fan) pump.

ELECTRICAL STEEL SHEET IS VARNISHED WITH A VARNISH PRODUCED BY OXIDIZING A CARBOHYDRATE SO THAT CARBOXYL GROUPS ARE FORMED IN THE MOLECULE AND ADDING FURFURAL TO THE OXIDIZED CARBOHYDRATE.
Abstract:
Grinding mills for wood wherein the wood is fed to a grinding stone require regulation to produce pulp of good quality. A signal measuring the friction coefficient between the wood and grinding stone is derived and this signal controls the wood feeding to keep the friction coefficient constant.
Abstract:
In a procedure in which a body formed of an iron-based alloy is manufactured from powder by isostatic compression, the powder is placed in a flexible container and subjected to isostatic pressure and heat. The isostatic hot pressing is carried out at two temperatures, at one of which the iron-based alloy is at least 25 percent in Alpha -phase and at the other of which the iron-based alloy is in gamma -phase. If the treatment at the temperature for gamma -phase is carried out first, the body is cooled below the temperature level at which it is at least 25 percent in Alpha -phase to prevent retention of the gamma phase and then raised to the temperature at which it is at least 25 percent in Alpha -phase.
Abstract:
An oscillator-controlled, self-commutated inverter connection for generating a single- or multi-phase alternating voltage and transmitting power from a direct voltage source to an alternating voltage consumer includes two inverter units, each including capacitor bank connected to the AC terminals of the inverter unit and a converter of the line-commutated type. The AC outputs of the converter are connected to the AC terminals of the inverter unit and the DC outputs are connected to the DC source. Reactor connections connect the DC outputs of the converter to the poles of the DC source. A second converter of the line-commutated type is connected by its DC outputs to the DC source. The two converters are anti-parallel connected to the DC source.
