    摘要: A cutting tool includes an elongate main body having inlet and outlet ends with a fluid flow path defined therebetween. A piston is mounted within the main body and longitudinally movable with respect to the main body. One or more cutters are moveable between retracted and deployed positions. The piston and each cutter engage one another so that longitudinal movement of the piston with respect to the main body moves each cutter between the deployed position and the retracted position. A flow regulator is operable to divert fluid flowing into the inlet end of the tool selectively along a first path, which passes the through the piston to the outlet end of the tool, and a second path, in which the fluid tends to drive the piston longitudinally with respect to the main body.

    摘要: Disclosed is an apparatus for setting an anchor in a borehole and milling a window in a side surface of the borehole in a single trip. The apparatus includes a mechanically-settable anchor initially forming part of the drill string, a plug member position below the anchor, and a milling assembly. When the drill string reaches a desired depth in the wellbore, the plug member may be activated from the surface, thus setting the plug member in position with respect to the wellbore. The anchor has an activation element which, when contacted in a predetermined manner, sets the anchor. The plug member has an operation element adapted so that, when the anchor and plug member come into contact with one another in a predetermined orientation, the activation element is operated by the operation element, thus setting the anchor.

    摘要: The invention relates to methods of determining whether a wellbore sealing operation has been performed correctly, and to wellbore-lining tubing which facilitates the determination of whether a wellbore sealing operation has been performed correctly. The invention has a utility in determining whether cement has been correctly supplied into an annular region defined between an internal wall of a wellbore and an external surface of a wellbore-lining tubing located in the wellbore, or whether a packer has been properly set to seal such an annular region. One disclosed method comprises the steps of: locating a wellbore-lining tubing (140) in a wellbore (100), said tubing having at least one pressure sensor (80); performing a wellbore sealing operation in an annular region (178) defined between an external surface of said tubing and an internal surface (130) of a wall of the wellbore, or between an external surface of said tubing and an internal surface of another wellbore-lining tubing (118) in which said tubing is located, to seal said tubing in the wellbore; monitoring the pressure of fluid in the annular region using the at least one pressure sensor; and recovering data concerning the pressure of the fluid monitored by the sensor to surface, the pressure data indicating whether the wellbore sealing operation has been performed correctly.

At least a part of each of the deflection surfaces is raised above the face surface, and each of the first and second deflection surfaces are inclined at a greater angle with respect to the longitudinal axis than the face surface in the region of the deflection arrangement. The first deflection surface is located closer to the top end of the face surface than the second deflection surface.

Key (27) on element (6 ) interacts with teeth (32) on control element (5). Lower end (70) of key is abutting against ridge (67) formed on inner surface of sleeve (2 ). when key (27) is engaged to teeth (32), teeth (31, 29) on elements (4, 6) are misaligned. Pressure increase results in piston (3) and drive element (4) moving downward freeing key (27) from engagement with teeth (32). Teeth (31, 29) are forced into alignment with subsequent rotation of timing element (6). In this position, ports on piston and sleeve are partially aligned. Pressure decrease results in element (6) moving up key (27) moving to next notch of teeth (32). When key (29) coincides with slot (50), piston (3) moves further down, partially occluding piston ports. When key (27) coincides wth slot (52) piston (3) moves even further down totally occluding piston ports.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a downhole tool (102) for selectively opening and closing a lateral borehole extending from a primary borehole. The tool (102) comprises a body (104) incorporating a wall provided with an opening (116) extending therethrough; a deflector member (106) slidably mounted in the body (104) and having a deflecting surface (126) for deflecting, in use, downhole equipment laterally within the body (104). The deflector member (106) is slidable between an open position, in which the deflecting surface is located adjacent and facing towards said opening so that, in use, downhole equipment laterally deflected by the deflecting surface is directed through said opening, and a closed position, in which the deflecting surface is oriented relative to said opening so as to prevent downhole equipment from being laterally deflected through said opening during use. In either position, equipment may pass into the primary borehole downhole of the primary/lateral junction. The tool (102) also comprises constraining means (138, 140) for restricting movement of the whipstock relative to the body.

    摘要: A device which is expandable to engage the interior of a tube, for example the casing of an oil well, comprises first and second tubular members in partial telescopic engagement with each other, the first tubular member having an end region which is received on the second tubular member and which is expandable radially outwardly to engage the interior of the tube. The second tubular member has tapered regions which, when forced into the end region, will cause radial expansion of the end region. The taper angle of the second tapered zone is less than the taper angle of both the first tapered zone and the third tapered zone. The fourth tapered zone preferably has a taper angle which is greater than that of the second tapered zone and less than that of the third tapered zone. In one embodiment, the tapered zones have respective taper angles of 15°, 1°, 5° and 1.25°.

    摘要: The invention relates to apparatus for use in wellbores and particularly, but not exclusively, to circulating subs used during downhole drilling operations. The apparatus includes a control groove and a pin received within the control groove for determining whether or not a longitudinal movement of a piston in a given direction relative to the apparatus body will move the apparatus between open and closed configurations. The apparatus further includes a control member located between and movable relative to the body and the piston. The control groove is defined in one of the piston and control member, and the pin is provided on the other of the piston and control member. Means are also provided for constraining movement of the piston relative to the body to longitudinal movement only. The invention thus provides an apparatus which has improved reliability in moving between open and closed configurations.
