Abstract:
A control system for an electric motor. Field Oriented Control, FOC, uses a digital control system, and attempts to maintain the rotating stator magnetic field ninety degrees ahead of the rotor field, in order to maximize torque. However, if a three-phase motor is used, which is very common, large amounts of computation are required, to convert from a three-phase coordinate system to an orthogonal coordinate system. The invention replaces the three-phase motor with a two-phase motor, which has been found to impose certain additional costs, but also provides benefits.
Abstract:
An apparatus for wrapping material onto and around a pipe, the apparatus including a shaft, the shaft rotatable by a driving apparatus, a payout core containing material to be wrapped onto a pipe, the payout core releasably mounted on the shaft, a deflection arm assembly secured to the shaft for rotation by the shaft, rotation of the shaft rotating the deflection arm assembly with respect to the payout core so that the deflection arm assembly takes material from the payout core and wraps the material onto a pipe adjacent the deflection arm assembly, each of the shaft and deflection arm assembly having a central opening through which is movable the pipe as the pipe is being wrapped.
Abstract:
A method is employed to attenuate ultrasonic noise propagating in a flow stream of a fluid flow system. In particular, the method attenuates the noise propagating between a noise source and a reference point in the flow stream (wherein the reference point and the noise source are positioned in the flow stream in direct acoustic line of sight relation). The method includes positioning an absorbent element in the flow stream between the noise source and the reference point. Then, the ultrasonic noise is directed past vicinity of the absorbent element such that indirect ultrasonic noise is absorbed by the absorbent element. Preferably, the method also includes deflecting the ultrasonic noise to convert direct noise to indirect noise prior to directing the ultrasonic noise past the vicinity of the absorbent material in the flow stream. Such a method may be employed to attenuate ultrasonic noise by up to about 20 dB to 45 dB.
Abstract:
A progressing cavity stator is provided. The progressing cavity stator includes a fiber reinforced composite component providing an internal helical cavity having at least one helical groove and an elastomeric liner disposed on an internal surface of the fiber reinforced composite component. In various exemplary embodiments, the fiber reinforced composite component includes a plurality of fibers disposed in a matrix material, the plurality of fibers being disposed such that distinct portions thereof follow correspondingly distinct directions. Exemplary embodiments of this invention may advantageously exhibit a prolonged service life in downhole applications as compared to conventional progressing cavity stators. A replaceable progressing cavity insert for a stator is also provided. Methods for fabricating progressing cavity stators and progressing cavity inserts are also provided.
Abstract:
A system for storing a first liquid isolated from the ambient environment by a second liquid of different density including outer walls forming a chamber, a flexible membrane in the chamber to form an inner chamber spaced from the chamber for containing the first liquid, means to maintain spaced relation between the chambers when full, and the second liquid filling the space between the chamber walls and the membrane.
Abstract:
An aerosol valve has a housing with a main flow passage at its inner end and an annular seal at its outer end. A valve stem extends through the seal and is movable inwards against a coil spring to open the valve in normal use, and to permit pressure filling by inward deflection of the seal. The internal cross section of the housing over a substantial part of its length is square and flow channels extend from corners of the square through the housing around the outside of the coil spring. Specific characteristics of the seal and spring are stated.
