Abstract:
A laryngoscope insertion section comprising a tube guide comprising at least an inferior tube guiding member and a superior tube guiding member, wherein the thickness of the insertion section in a first region is less than the external diameter of the largest diameter endotracheal tube in an operating range of endotracheal tube sizes plus the thickness of the inferior tube guiding member plus the thickness of the superior tube guiding member. Typically, the insertion section comprises an elongate member and the tube guide is lateral of the elongate member. Typically, an endotracheal tube is retained within the tube guide in flexural tension.
Abstract:
Enabling efficient navigation of a playlist of media files stored on a computer-readable medium. Aspects of the invention define a playlist structure to have one or more playlist units. Each playlist unit identifies one or more media files in the playlist and includes metadata for the media files. A consumer electronic device retrieves the playlist units and displays the metadata contained therein to a user to enable navigation of the playlist. Aspects of the invention reduce the memory requirements of the consumer electronic devices and reduce the quantity of disk seek operations needed for playlist navigation.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are directed to managing resources within a network. In one example a method includes receiving destination capabilities from at least one destination component to an intermediate services component and generating an aggregate capabilities ticket based on the received destination capabilities. The method further includes providing the generated aggregate capabilities ticket from the intermediate services component to a client component and receiving an aggregate intent ticket that is produced by the client component and based on the aggregate capabilities ticket to the intermediate services component from the client component. The method may further include compiling a destination component database. The method may additionally include generating a destination intent ticket based on the received aggregate intent ticket and the destination component database, and providing the destination intent ticket to a target destination component.
Abstract:
A gaming machine adapted to provide a main wagering game in response to a wager placed by a user is provided. The main wagering game involves the selection and presentation of a plurality of symbols on a display and if a winning combination occurs, the gaming machine determines an award associated with the winning combination. The gaming machine is further adapted to provide the user with the choice of gambling the determined award on a gamble game, wherein the expected return of the gamble game to the user is greater than 100%.
Abstract:
A method of gaming comprising: providing at least one modifier, each modifier adapted to modify a prize to be awarded to a player for a game outcome in a manner known in advance by the player; offering the player an option to select a modifier; and applying any selected modifier to modify the prize for the game outcome.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to airfoils, and in particular turbine blades and vanes, having cooling slots that are angled from a line of reference to effect metering of cooling air through the cooling slots thereof. This metered cooling airflow also creates a more stable film cooling layer about the surface of the airfoil.
Abstract:
This is a position sensing monitor that provides private sensory biofeedback to adults, in the form of auditory stimulus or tactile sensation (vibration), to promote non-supine sleep. The essential feature of this invention is to eliminate/reduce position-related snoring and obstructive sleep apnea and not disrupting sleep of bed partner. A variation of this concept is its use in infants to promote sleeping supine by parental notification of rolling from supine to side or prone positions, allow re-position to supine and thereby reducing the risk for SIDS.
Abstract:
The subject invention pertains to a method and apparatus for manufacturing a plastic optical transmission medium. The subject invention also relates to materials for use in producing plastic optical transmission medium. The subject method can allow continuous high-speed production while controlling the refractive index profile, step or graded, of the optical transmission medium. In a specific embodiment, the medium POTM can have high optical transmission, and be able to operate in conditions up to 125° C. at 95% R.H. In a specific embodiment of the subject invention, two or more concentric cylinders of transparent polymer melts, of which at least one is a cross-linkable material, can be utilized to produce a plastic optical transmission medium. In addition, zero, one, or more transparent, nonreactive, low molecular weight diffusible additive(s) can be added to zero, one, or more of the transparent polymer melts to provide a graded refractive index profile. The molecular weights and chemical structures of the index modifying additives can be chosen to ensure their diffusion constants are low enough to provide a stable refractive index profile at the desired operating temperature of the fiber. The cylinders of melt can be extruded into a solidified polymeric tube via, for example, a cross-head type of die. The tube containing the melt materials can be maintained at high temperature for a specific time period, such that the cross-linking can occur and, optionally, the additives can diffuse within the polymeric tube.
Abstract:
A method for identifying how market drivers affect sales performance data. The method includes accepting historical data that includes market data associated with a plurality of market drivers, and sales performance data relating to one or more products. The method also includes generating a model relating the market drivers and the sales performance data according to the historical data and a fitness function, including, selecting a subset of the market drivers, and estimating coefficients of the model characterizing a relationship between the selected market drivers and the sales data.
Abstract:
A security safe having a housing defining a security enclosure, the housing including an opening into an interior of said enclosure for placing items into, and removing items from, said enclosure. A door mechanism is mounted to the housing for movement between opened and closed positions in relation to said opening, wherein in the closed position the door mechanism precludes access to said interior through said opening. In one version, the housing further includes an aperture for inserting items into said enclosure without moving said door mechanism into the opened position. In another version the aperture is defined in a door of the safe. The enclosure further includes a breach providing access into the safe for passing at least a power cable therethrough for powering at least one electrical unit therein.
