Abstract: A heat pack using supercooled aqueous salt solution that resists premature activation at low temperatures is disclosed. The heat pack comprises two sheets that are bonded together to form a laminated sheet. The heat pack has a first and second compartment. A frangible seal separates the two compartments. One of the compartments contains a supercooled aqueous salt solution. The salt solution contains 15 to 25 percent glycerin by mass.

Abstract: The invention relates to a portable device which is designed to be carried on the body of a child, said child being a baby or a small child. The device includes one or more sensors for detecting multiple vital parameters of the child, wherein the vital parameters at least include the heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate; analysis software which is configured so as to predict at least one current or future physiological state of the child as a function of the heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate measured by the sensors; and an interface for transmitting the prediction result relating to the at least one physiological state to a mobile telecommunication device of a user and/or to a server computer system.

Abstract: A medical imaging support includes a substantially flat radiotransparent platform, a plurality of radiotransparent flaps, and closure mechanisms. The platform has a longitudinal direction between a top edge and a bottom edge. The plurality of sets of radiotransparent flaps have a first set of the radiotransparent flaps positioned closer to the top edge in the longitudinal direction than the second set of radiotransparent flaps, and at least one set of flaps includes a first flap and a second flap where the first flap is fixed to the platform proximate a first side edge and the second flap is fixed to the platform proximate a second side edge. The closure mechanisms are positioned on the first flap or second flap of each set of radiotransparent flaps, wherein the closure mechanism selectively fixes the first flap to the second flap of each set of radiotransparent flaps.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a person within a defined area by detecting breathing, or the lack thereof. Breathing is detected using radar signals, camera signals and/or microphone signals. The radar signals, camera signals and/or microphone signals are analyzed to determine if the subject person is moving, and if not moving if the person is breathing or not-breathing. An alarm is generated should the reflected radar signals, the camera signals and the microphone signals all simultaneously indicate no movement and no movement of the subject person in the defined area for a selected period of time.

Abstract: A monitoring device may include a housing with: a first connector that mechanically couples to a baby bottle; and a second connector that mechanically couples to a nipple; a tube having a first opening defined by a first edge proximate to the first connector and a having second opening defined by a second edge proximate to the second connector. Moreover, the housing may include a set of sensors that perform measurements associated with feeding. During operation, the monitoring device may perform the measurements while a baby is performing the feeding, where the measurements are associated with sucking, swallowing and breathing by the baby. Then, the monitoring device may dynamically provide feedback based at least in part on the measurements. For example, the feedback may include: change to the feeding (such as when to dynamically pause the feeding), a change to a size of the nipple or the baby bottle, etc.

Abstract: A method for photogrammetric measurement includes providing a bedsheet having one or more patterns printed thereon in accordance with a pattern template, which defines respective locations of the one or more patterns in a template coordinate frame. An image is received, in an image coordinate frame, of a person lying on a bed, which is covered by the bedsheet. The image is processed in order to identify the one or more patterns in the image and to match the one or more patterns identified in the image to the one or more patterns in the pattern template. A transformation is computed, based on the matched patterns, between the image coordinate frame and the template coordinate frame. A dimension of the person is measured by applying the computed transformation to the image of the person.
