摘要: A high-power microwave/mm-wave oscillator is filled with an ionizable gas at a pressure of about 1-20 mTorr, into which an electron beam is injected at a high current density of at least about 1 amp/cm.sup.2, but typically 50-100 A/cm.sup.2. A plasma is formed which inhibits space-charge blowup of the beam, thereby eliminating the prior requirement of a magnet system to control the beam. The system functions as a slow-wave tube to produce narrow-band microwaves for a gas pressure of about 1-5 mTorr, and as a plasma wave tube to produce broadband microwave/mm-wave radiation for a gas pressure of about 10-20 mTorr. A new high output, hollow-cathode-plasma electron gun is employed in which a metal oxide layer is formed on the inner surface to enhance the secondary electron yield; a cathode, grid, and extraction anode have respective sets of multiple apertures which are mutually aligned to yield a high perveance beam; the cathode, grid, and anode are curved to geometrically focus the beam, and a beam with a circular cross-section is generated.

An alignment tool for aligning an antenna to a satellite configuration in accordance with the present invention comprises a meter for measuring a satellite downlink signal power from the antenna, a motor for adjusting at least one fine adjustment mechanism of the antenna, and a processor, coupled to the motor and to the meter, for commanding the motor based on the received power from the antenna, wherein the processor commands the motor to maximize a received power from the antenna.

摘要: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for receiving signals from communications satellites are disclosed. An antenna unit for receiving signals transmitted from a plurality of communications satellites at a plurality of orbital slots, in accordance with one or more embodiments of the present invention comprises a first reflecting surface, a frequency selective reflective surface, and a plurality of low noise block down converters with feedhorns (LNBFs), wherein at least a first LNBF is placed on the antenna unit in a first location and receives at least first signals at a first frequency band from a first orbital slot and at least a second LNBF is placed on the antenna unit at a second location and receives at least second signals at a second frequency band from the same orbital slot, wherein the first signals reflect from the first reflecting surface and transmit through the frequency selective surface and the second signals reflect from the first reflecting surface and also reflect from the frequency selective surface.

The microwave-absorbing cap has microwave-absorbing material therein or thereon. 摘要: A method and receiver systems for demodulating and decoding a hierarchically modulated signal, e.g. an 8PSK signal, are disclosed. An exemplary method includes demodulating and processing (502) the hierarchically modulated signal (202) to produce symbols (212) from the first modulation at the first hierarchical level, applying information (504) from a plurality of the symbols from the first modulation at the first hierarchical level in subtracting (214) from the demodulated hierarchically modulated signal to obtain the second modulation at the second hierarchical level and processing (506) the second modulation at the second hierarchical level to produce second symbols (222) from the demodulated second signal. The hierarchically modulated signal comprises a non-uniform 8PSK signal. Applying the information from the plurality of the symbols from the first modulation can be achieved by applying the symbols after error correction. A decision-directed demodulation of the first modulation can also be used to further improve performance.
