Abstract:
A three component bullet with an improved core retention feature and a method of manufacturing the bullet includes a cylindrical jacket having an open end and a closed end containing a malleable metal core which is forced into a forming die having a bottleneck shaped interior, wherein the outside diameter of the open-ended forward portion of the jacket is smaller than the outside diameter of its closed rearward portion. The open end of the pre-form may be dropped through or forced through a malleable non-rigid locking band. A relatively tight-fitting punch enters the open end of the pre-form, to radially swell the core and subsequently portions of the jacket fore and aft of the non-rigid locking band, thereby securing the non-rigid locking band in place. An inwardly-extending annular band of jacket material embeds itself into the core material to lock the core inside the jacket.
Abstract:
A monolithic upper receiver/hand guard is provided for use with a firearm. The monolithic upper receiver/hand guard can include an upper receiver section, a hand guard section, and an interrupted optics rail extending along the top of the upper receiver section and the hand guard section. Cable routing features can be defined in the hand guard section and/or the upper receiver section for helping to control wires and cables extending from or between peripheral devices and accessories, which can be mounted on the monolithic upper receiver/hand guard. The cable routing features can include one or more crossover cable guides disposed in respective channels in the interrupted optics rail. The crossover cable guide can include one or more grooves for receiving a portion of a cable passing from one side of the monolithic upper receiver/hand guard to the other for connecting two peripheral devices, for example.
Abstract:
A bolt hold open assembly for a rotary magazine may include a bolt hold open lever movable to a locked position to inhibit forward motion of the bolt after firing the last round of ammunition. The bolt hold open lever may be moved to the locked position by a bolt hold open riser that is activated by a paddle movable with the rotor assembly of the rotary magazine.
Abstract:
A wad or shot cup having a forward cylinder portion receiving a payload and a rear cylinder portion receiving a charge of propellant. One or more latent deceleration features can be formed in a surface of the sidewall extending along the rear cylinder portion. The latent deceleration features can be spaced apart from a rearward end of the shot cup and can be deployed to form deceleration petals after the shot cup is fired from a firearm. A series of longitudinal slits can be formed in the forward cylinder portion so that a portion of the sidewall expands radially adjacent the longitudinal slits after the shot cup is fired from a firearm for urging at least a portion of the payload to exit the forward cylinder portion.
Abstract:
The disclosure generally relates to a booster for a silencer. The booster includes a piston with a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end of the piston is configured to couple to a firearm such that a projectile can pass thorough the piston from the proximal end to the distal end. The distal end of the piston includes a flange with a plurality of spokes. The booster further includes a housing with an eccentric bore configured to couple to a silencer. The eccentric bore aligns the silencer below the sight plane of the firearm.
Abstract:
A firearm may include a receiver and a barrel coupled to the receiver having a chamber at a breech end thereof for receiving a round of ammunition, as well as a magazine that supplies rounds of ammunition to the chamber. The firearm may further include a bolt assembly movable about the receiver to direct the rounds of ammunition towards the chamber, and the firearm may also include a trigger plate assembly that may have a trigger, a hammer movable upon activation of the trigger, a carrier operable to direct the rounds of ammunition from the magazine towards the chamber, a feed latch operable to release the rounds of ammunition from the magazine to the carrier, and a latch release operable to engage the feed latch to facilitate the release of the rounds of ammunition.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates generally to a bullet having a first or proximal end, a second or distal end, and a curved circumferential feature formed between the proximal and distal ends of the bullet. The proximal end comprises a large meplat and a circumferential guidance feature. The circumferential guidance feature is configured to be operable with the rib of an ammunition magazine to help prevent binding and allow for normal alignment in the ammunition magazine. As a result, the bullet has more stability within the ammunition magazine, higher potential accuracy, and ability to have longer and heavier projectiles. The bullet further can be cast in a mold to form the bullet with the desired shape, including the circumferential guidance feature formed therein.
