    Abstract: Systems and methods for control of the delivery of contaminates are provided. A conveyor moves contaminate particles from a hopper into an airflow. The contents of a hopper at multiple time points within a sliding window of time are weighted with a scale. A processor applies linear regression to a data set comprising the time points as an independent variable and the weight measurements as a dependent variable, resulting in a determination of a line fitting the data set. A processor determines a current mass flow rate of the contaminate particles from the slope of the line. The processor determines an estimated change in the conveyor motor speed needed to achieve the target mass flow rate, the estimated change determined from a predetermined mapping of flow rates to motor speeds, the estimated change based on the current mass flow rate, the target mass flow rate, and a predetermined fraction.

    Abstract: A system includes an air chamber and an oil capture cavity. The air chamber includes an inlet to receive pressurized air from a gas turbine engine. The oil capture cavity is positioned between the air chamber and an oil sump supplying lubricating oil to the gas turbine engine. The oil capture cavity includes an auxiliary vent formed in a base of the oil capture cavity. A seal may separate the oil capture cavity from fluid communication with the oil sump. A nozzle provides fluid communication between the oil capture cavity and the air chamber. The nozzle is configured and positioned to direct a stream of the pressurized air into the oil capture cavity against an opposite wall of the oil capture cavity to create a quiescent zone at the base of the oil capture cavity. The quiescent zone includes the auxiliary vent.

    Abstract: A filtration system is provided that includes a gearbox positioned in a geared turbofan engine. The system further includes an auxiliary lubrication system positioned in the geared turbofan engine and in fluid communication with the gearbox. The auxiliary lubrication system includes an auxiliary reservoir, an auxiliary pump in fluid communication with the auxiliary reservoir, an auxiliary return line extending between the gearbox and the auxiliary reservoir, the auxiliary return line configured to transport a lubricant from the gearbox to the auxiliary reservoir, and an auxiliary supply line extending between the auxiliary pump and the gearbox, the auxiliary supply line configured to transport the lubricant from the auxiliary pump to the gearbox. The system further includes a non-removable filter positioned in the auxiliary lubrication system. The non-removable filter is configured to prevent or limit debris that is suspended in the lubricant from flowing into the gearbox and/or the auxiliary pump.

    Abstract: An airfoil with dual-wall cooling for a gas turbine engine comprises a spar having a pressure side wall and a suction side wall meeting at a leading edge and a trailing edge of the airfoil. An interior of the spar comprises a coolant cavity. The suction side wall includes an arrangement of rails on an outer surface thereof, where each rail extends along a non-chordal direction and terminates at or near the trailing edge. The airfoil also comprises a suction side coversheet overlying the suction side wall, where an inner surface of the suction side coversheet is in contact with the arrangement of rails so as to define a plurality of angled channels between the suction side wall and the suction side coversheet. The suction side wall also comprises inlet holes in fluid communication with the coolant cavity for feeding coolant to the angled channels, and the arrangement of rails is configured to direct the coolant through the angled channels and toward the trailing edge of the airfoil.

    Abstract: In some examples, a method for additive manufacturing an article, the method including depositing a filament via a filament delivery device to form at least one track of the deposited filament, the at least one track of the deposited filament forming at least a portion of a preform article, wherein the filament includes a sacrificial binder and a powder, wherein the powder includes a plurality of elongated particles with each respective particle defining a longitudinal axis, wherein the longitudinal axes of the plurality of particles are substantially aligned with each other within the at least one track of the deposited filament; removing substantially all the binder from the at least one track of the preform article to form a powder article; and sintering the powder article to form a sintered article.
