Abstract: In an embodiment, a communications system includes a first transmitter electrically coupled to a first antenna of a phased array antenna, the first transmitter configured to receive an input signal, apply a first baseband frequency shift to the input signal to generate a first baseband frequency shifted input signal, generate a first modulated signal based on the first baseband frequency shifted input signal and transmit the first modulated signal by the first antenna. The communications system includes a second transmitter electrically coupled to a second antenna of the phased array antenna. The second transmitter configured to receive the input signal, apply a second baseband frequency shift, different from the first baseband frequency shift, to the input signal to generate a second baseband frequency shifted input signal, generate a second modulated signal based on the second baseband frequency shifted input signal, and transmit the second modulated signal by the second antenna.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a plurality of conductive structures having first sides and second sides opposite the first sides, wherein the second sides of the plurality of conductive structures are configured to be physically coupleable with a printed circuit board (PCB) of a receiver, a transmitter, or a transceiver. The first sides of the plurality of conductive structures are configured to be spaced from the PCB by a first distance when the plurality of conductive structures is physically coupled with the PCB. The apparatus includes an antenna having a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The second side of the antenna is disposed closer to the plurality of conductive structures than the first side of the antenna when the plurality of conductive structures is physically coupled with the PCB.

Abstract: A wireless communications system includes a pre-distortion actuator configured to receive a carrier-modulated signal and convert the carrier-modulated signal into an output signal, the pre-distortion actuator comprising a behavioral model that models a transmit chain of the system including at least one amplifier and at least one antenna and predict an input-output relationship of the transmit chain of the system between an input to the transmit chain to an output of the transmit chain. The system includes a phased antenna array configured to transmit the output signal. The phased antenna array includes a plurality of antenna elements, each antenna element electrically coupled to a respective power amplifier. The pre-distortion actuator is configured to generate the output signal by applying a correction to the carrier-modulated input signal that cancels out nonlinearities The behavioral model is updated based on feedback from a receiver from a previous output signal transmitted to the receiver.

An example method can include determining one or more cross-coupling coefficients representing electrical cross-coupling between a first signal path through a component and a second signal path through the component; based on the one or more cross-coupling coefficients, determining a first modified beamforming weight for a first signal associated with the first signal path through the component and a second modified beamforming weight for a second signal associated with the second signal path through the component, wherein the first and second modified beamforming weights compensate for the electrical cross-coupling between the first signal path through the component and the second signal path through the component; applying the first modified beamforming weight to the first signal associated with the first signal path; and applying the second modified beamforming weight to the second signal associated with the second signal path.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a communications system includes a first transmitter including a digital beamforming baseband section configured to receive an input signal to be transmitted, the input signal at a baseband frequency, and a modulation section electrically coupled to the digital beamforming baseband section and a first antenna of a phased array antenna. The modulation section is configured to receive a local oscillator signal at a first local oscillator frequency and apply a baseband frequency shift to the input signal to generate a baseband frequency shifted input signal. The modulation section generates a modulated signal based on the input signal. The communication system includes a second transmitter included in a second IC chip of the plurality of IC chips electrically coupled to a second antenna and configured to provide a second modulated signal at the carrier frequency and a second LO leakage signal at a second local oscillator frequency.
