Abstract:
This disclosure concerns nucleic acid molecules and methods of use thereof for control of coleopteran pests through RNA interference-mediated inhibition of target coding and transcribed non-coding sequences in coleopteran pests. The disclosure also concerns methods for making transgenic plants that express nucleic acid molecules useful for the control of coleopteran pests, and the plant cells and plants obtained thereby.
Abstract:
The invention relates to new methods of dyeing polymers. The methods include dispersing nanomaterials into the polymers to form polymer nanocomposites, and dyeing the polymer nanocomposites with a dye. The invention also relates to dyed polymers thus obtained and articles made from these dyed polymers.
Abstract:
Polynucleotides that comprise regulatory regions of the yeast alcohol oxidase 1 promoter are provided. Isolated polynucleotides, recombinant polynucleotides, vectors, expression cassettes and transformed cells containing the regulatory regions are disclosed. Proteins produced by the transformed cells are also provided.
Abstract:
A road safety marker assembly having a road safety marker and a drive wheel supporting at least a portion of the road safety marker above a road surface to permit movement of the road safety marker assembly relative to the road surface. A motor is drivingly connected to the drive wheel for driving the drive wheel to self-propel the assembly relative to the road surface. In one embodiment, the road safety marker assembly includes a receiver for receiving a control signal. The motor is electrically connected to the receiver and is responsive to the signal to drive rotation of the drive wheel to move the assembly relative to the road surface.
Abstract:
A computer server and method for providing assured quality-of-service request scheduling in such a manner that low priority requests are not starved in the presence of higher priority requests. Each received data request is preferably assigned a priority having both a static priority component and a dynamic priority component. The static priority component is preferably determined according to a client priority, a requested resource priority, or both. The dynamic priority component is essentially an aging mechanism so that the priority of each request grows over time until serviced. Additionally, each assigned priority is preferably determined using a scaling factor which can be used to adjust a weighting of the static priority component relative to the dynamic priority component as necessary or desired for any specific application of the invention.
Abstract:
Standalone and cluster-based servers, including Web servers, control the amount of data processed concurrently by such servers to thereby control server operating performance. A dispatcher is preferably interposed between clients and one or more back-end servers, and preferably monitors the performance of each back-end server (either directly or otherwise). For each back-end server, the dispatcher preferably also controls, in response to the monitored performance, either or both the number of concurrently processed data requests and the number of concurrently supported connections to thereby control the back-end servers' performance. In one embodiment, the dispatcher uses a packet capture library for capturing packets at OSI layer 2 and implements a simplified TCP/IP protocol in user-space (vs. kernel space) to reduce data copying. Commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and operating system software are preferably employed to take advantage of their price-to-performance ratio.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for treating distal radius fractures using a plating system. In an aspect, a distal radius plating system includes a volar plate body for interfacing with a volar side of a distal portion of a radius bone. The volar plate body has a volar head portion extending from the volar plate body and terminating at a distal edge, the volar head portion including a first set of apertures to receive fixation fasteners therethrough to fix to the radius bone. The distal radius plating system also includes a radial longitudinal portion extending from a radial edge of the volar plate body to interface with the radial styloid of the radius bone while the volar plate body is positioned on the volar side of the distal portion of the radius bone.
Abstract:
A surgical loupes head strap is disclosed. The surgical loupes head strap may include a first monofilament and a second monofilament coupled by at least one sleeve. The surgical loupes head strap may further include a first coupler with a first hole and a second hole, where the first hole is configured to surround and couple to a first end of the first monofilament, and the second hole is configured to surround and couple to at least a portion of a first surgical loupes headgear temple. The surgical loupes head strap may further include a second coupler with a first hole and a second hole, where the first hole is configured to surround and couple to a first end of the second monofilament, and the second hole is configured to surround and couple to at least a portion of a second surgical loupes headgear temple.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for treatment of squamous cell carcinoma or other cancer utilizing targeting peptides are described. The targeting peptides interact with SCC cells or other cancerous cells to block or interfere with 14-3-3ε heterodimerization or CDC25A binding to 14-3-3ε. A peptide composition embodiment includes, but is not limited to, at least one of a first targeting peptide comprising a structure of Ac-Gln-Arg-Gln-Asn-Ser-(PO32−)-Ala-Pro-Ala-Arg-NH2 (SEQ ID NO: 4) and a second targeting peptide comprising a structure of Ac-Arg-Thr-Lys-Ser-Arg-Thr(PO32−)-Trp-Ala-Gly-NH2 (SEQ ID NO: 5), and a third targeting peptide comprising a modification of or a substituted derivative of the peptide of SEQ ID NO: 4 or SEQ ID NO: 5.
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for surgical training with low cost, reusable materials and a highly customizable virtual environment for skill-building. According to various embodiments, a surgical training tool is usable in conjunction with a support structure configured to at least partially constrain the tool movement. Meanwhile, the tool is tracked in real-time with off-tool detectors to generate a tool path driving a virtual rendering of the surgical training tool in an operative environment. The virtual rendering may be visually observable via a display device and may include a customizable and/or selectable operative environment with one or more structures that can be operated on by the virtual surgical training tool. By tracking the virtual tool interaction with the virtual structures, a task path may be established for documenting and/or objectively assessing the performance of one or more operative tasks.
