摘要: Examples of systems and methods of wireless control of a canal hearing device by applying a magnetic field on the skin at the temporomandibular region of the head are described. An exemplary hearing device may include one or more magnetic sensors for wireless activation by the magnetic end of a remote control device applied inconspicuously to the anterior of the external ear. The activation of a reed switch magnetic sensor within the canal hearing device may be decoded by the electronics of the hearing device to implement a control command, such as volume change, program setting change, ON, or OFF. According to examples described, wireless control of the canal hearing device may be implemented with a natural, comfortable, and inconspicuous hand-arm motion. In some embodiments, multiple reed switches may be arranged to selectively respond to a magnetic field applied within distinct “hot spot” regions, for separate remote control commands.

摘要: A removal tool for removing canal hearing devices from the ear canal, examples of which may include a hand piece and a removal loop having a wide section for placing over a knob handle structure incorporated within the canal hearing device, and a narrow section for interlocking with the knob handle to remove the hearing device from the ear. The removal loop is generally configured in the shape of keyhole to guide and transition of the knob and shaft of the knob handle into the narrow section for capture and interlocking therewithin. The removal tool may provide ease of use, particularly for individuals with poor dexterity and/or poor vision. In a preferred embodiment, the removal loop is made of a single formed wire for improved durability, lower cost of fabrication, and safe operation that minimizes contact with the walls of the ear canal.

摘要: Various embodiments provide a flexible joint for extended wear hearing devices. One embodiment provides a flexible joint for a hearing device comprising a compliant tube having a lateral and a medial end, a pivotal portion and a lumen. The hearing device can include a CIC hearing aid positioned in the bony portion of the ear canal. The tube ends are configured to be coupled to lateral and medial device assemblies. The tube allows the lateral assembly to advance the medial assembly into the bony portion of the ear canal and have the lateral and medial assemblies conform to the shape of the ear canal via pivotal movement. The tube also acoustically decouples the two assemblies. The pivotal portion can comprise a necked portion or otherwise have decreased stiffness relative to other tube portions. The tube can be shaped to fit over and retain one or both assemblies.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a protective cap assembly for a CIC hearing aid. The assembly comprises a perforated cap configured to be mounted over the lateral end of the hearing aid to protect the hearing aid from contaminants. At a least a portion of the cap includes a protective coating and a plurality of perforations. The placement and size of the perforations can be configured to provide sufficient aeration and drainage to reduce a relative humidity of the cap interior when the hearing aid is positioned in the ear canal. The perforations also operate as sound conduction channels for conducting sound to the cap interior. The perforations have a minimum size wherein a single perforation provides sufficient acoustic transmittance to a hearing aid component such that a hearing aid performance parameter is not substantially adversely affected. They can also be configured to provide splash protection for the cap interior.

摘要: An embodiment provides a continuous wear hearing device to be worn entirely within the ear canal, comprising a receiver assembly sized to be positioned in the bony portion of the canal, a battery assembly and a microphone assembly. The receiver assembly includes a receiver for supplying acoustic signals to the tympanic membrane. The battery assembly is coupled to the receiver assembly and includes a metal-air battery and a battery vent. The microphone assembly is coupled to the battery assembly and includes a microphone and a microphone sound port. The sound port faces a medial direction with respect to the canal. The orientation and position of the microphone in the canal are configured to reduce fouling of the port by cerumen. The positioning of the microphone assembly defines an air cavity disposed between the microphone assembly and the battery assembly with the port and the vent fluidically coupled to the cavity.

摘要: An embodiment provides a user interface for remotely controlling the operational state of a hearing device positioned in the ear canal. The interface comprises a controller, a switch coupled to the controller and an audio port coupled to the controller. The controller switches between the operational states of a hearing device having at least a first and a second operational state, such as an off-state, an on-state. The switch receives inputs from the user to change the operational state of the hearing device and is actuable by an external magnetic field source held in the hand of the user within a selected proximity envelope from the switch. The controller switches between the states responsive to a pattern of movement of the magnetic field source made relative to the proximity envelope. The audio port produces an audio output indicating to the user the operational state of the hearing device.

摘要: The invention provides a disposable sensor patch for the non-invasive detection and indication of a heart condition during a medical emergency. The patch is placed on the chest area for sensing and analyzing a surface electrocardiogram (ECG). The heart condition is rapidly indicated via an indicator integrated in the patch. The disposable smart patch is inexpensive and simple to use by a layperson assisting or living with the person experiencing the medical crisis. The patch is activated automatically upon its removal from the package and placement on the chest. The detection and indication occurs rapidly and within 90 seconds of placement on the chest. In another embodiment of the invention, a vibration sensor element is incorporated for detecting cardiovascular vibrations and for ruling out pulseless electrical activity.

摘要: The invention provides a low cost, fully integrated, disposable patch for the non-invasive, continuous monitoring of fetal electrocardiogram (ECG). The patch detects fetal ECG by filtering the dominant maternal ECG therefrom. In one embodiment, an upper electrode is used to obtain a relatively pure maternal ECG signal for its cancellation from the signal obtained from the abdominal fetal ECG. In another embodiment, multiple abdominal electrodes are used and the dominant periodic features of maternal ECG are identified and eliminated. The fetal monitor patch is thin, flexible, and incorporates a battery and an alarm within. The alarm is activated during an adverse health condition for the fetus. The fetal monitor patch is particularly designed for long-term wear applications exceeding one week and lasting up to several months. The patch is unobtrusive and thus worn continuously, even during sleep and bathing. In another embodiment, the fetal monitor patch is programmable and stored fetal ECG data can be transmitted to a remote receiver.

摘要: The invention provides a canal hearing device and method in which the device is implemented with a mode of operation that provides acoustic transparency as well as a power-saving function, particularly useful to permit the user to wear the device in the ear canal during periods of sleep or inactivity without substantial loss of normal unaided response. The transparent mode has an in-situ acoustic transfer function that compensates for the insertion loss caused by the presence of a hearing device in the ear canal. While the device is in this transparent mode, its acoustic transfer function gives the user a perception of unaided hearing, as though the device were removed, when it is actually being worn continuously in the ear canal. Current drain of the device is significantly reduced as the transparent mode serves to shut off or reduce bias currents of at least one circuit element within the device circuitry. The invention is particularly useful in canal hearing devices adapted for extended wear in the ear canal for periods longer than one month without removal.
