Abstract: A method is provided that is performed in a wireless network to detect a rogue wireless device. The method comprises detecting a suspect wireless device in the wireless network based on messages transmitted by the suspect wireless device using a first Media Access Control (MAC) address that is also used by a valid wireless device in the wireless network. When a suspect wireless device is detected, the method next includes sending to the valid wireless device in the wireless network a request configured to cause the valid wireless device to change its MAC address. After the valid wireless device has changed its MAC address, the method involves observing messages transmitted by the suspect wireless device in the wireless network. The method then includes determining that the suspect wireless device is a rogue device when the suspect wireless device continues to transmit messages using the first MAC address.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an access point of an overhead mesh of access points in an area selects a range of client identifiers. The access point sends, via a beam cone transmitted in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area, a trigger signal that includes the range of client identifiers and prompts client devices having identifiers in that range to send best effort transmissions towards the overhead mesh. The access point detects a collision between the best effort transmissions of the client devices. The access point adjusts the range of client identifiers so as to avoid future collisions between the best effort transmissions of the client devices.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a controller identifies access points forming an overhead mesh of access points in an area, each access point comprising one or more directional transmitters each configured to transmit a beam cone in a substantially downward direction towards a floor of the area. The controller determines coverage areas on the floor of the area for the one or more directional transmitters of the access points in the overhead mesh. The controller generates, based on the coverage areas, alternating communication schedules for the access points such that a client device at any given location on the floor of the area is within range of a plurality of receiving access points in the overhead mesh and at least one transmitting access point in the overhead mesh at a certain point in time. The controller sends the communication schedules to the access points.

Abstract: Backscatter Device (BKD) placement and placement calibration may be provided. A plurality of ambient energy sources of a Three-Dimensional (3D) space may be caused to transmit charging frames for Backscatter Devices (BKDs). Each of the charging frames may include a payload having a Media Access Control (MAC) address of transmitting ambient energy source. An amount of ambient energy received from the charging frames of the plurality of ambient energy sources and each contributing source may be received from survey devices placed at positions along a sub-space of the 3D space. The amount of ambient energy available from each contributing source at each positions along the sub-space per predetermined time period may be predicted based on the amount of ambient energy received from the plurality of ambient energy sources.

Abstract: Backscatter Device (BKD) placement and placement calibration may be provided. A plurality of ambient energy sources in a Three-Dimensional (3D) space may be identified and mapped. Each of the plurality of ambient energy sources may be categorized as one of the following: a stationary and controllable ambient energy source, a stationary and uncontrollable ambient energy source, and a mobile ambient energy source. An amount of ambient energy available at each of a plurality of sub-spaces of the 3D space may be determined. The amount of ambient energy available at each of the plurality of sub-spaces may be determined by determining a first amount of ambient energy that is continuously available and a second amount of ambient energy that is likely available at each of the plurality of sub-spaces of the 3D space.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a mobile system scans wireless channels for any upcoming access points using a dedicated monitor radio of the mobile system. The mobile system identifies a particular wireless channel in use by an upcoming access point. The mobile system notifies a second radio of the mobile system of the particular wireless channel. The mobile system performs a handoff between a current access point and the upcoming access point in part by switching the second radio of the mobile system to the particular wireless channel of the upcoming access point.
